How to Transfer User Profile to Another User

Is there a way to create a new users account on the same PC such that it will have access to the same program and document files as an existing users account?

    Local Users
    Administrator, DISABLED, Member of Administrators
DefaultAccount , DISABLED, Member of Users
    Guest, DISABLED, Member of n/a
    boss Member of Administrators
bill Member of Users < this is a Microsoft account
    new Member of Users

The goal is to delete the bill users account. This account has been around since win7 and perhaps before. Profile size is 4 GB. Files are distributed on both the C: and S: drives.

It would be desired to have the new users account fully functional before deleting the old users account.

    Thanks…Bill

    Hi, see
How to Transfer User Profile to Another User-snap-2016-11-19-13.17.31.jpg

    (The screenshot is Win 10).

    Suggest e.g.
    a. create new empty profile with parameters as needed
    b. copy profile to it
    c. log in and test new profile making sure you have access to all programs, desktop, files....
    d. delete original profile

Recommend: back up before making changes.
We strongly recommend disk imaging: Macrium Reflect (free) + its boot medium + external storage.

From what I've read and see, you can't copy the profile you're currently using.

    Hello Again Dalchina,

Following the Windows 10 ACER 20H2 Update for my current Laptop, that despite having to remove the Microsoft and ACER ‘Bloatware’, as mentioned with a previous post Ref: USB Pop-Up Notification, I am finally happy with a new clean Image of my Laptop, as Windows 10 Pro.

Fortunately there was no Windows 10 Home to Pro update required using the ACER 20H2 Update via ACER Care Centre App.
Unfortunately the same cannot be said Windows 10 20H2 Update using the Official Microsoft Windows 10 *.iso which installs Windows 10 Home that then needs to be updated to Pro where applicable.

My current Laptop Build currently has only the one Administrator Account with very few 3rd Party Applications installed at this time that I will not want or find the need to use as a standard user logged on to the Laptop.

Upon creation of my Standard User Account I was reminded of how much Microsoft and ACER ‘Bloatware’, a new local account creation has:-(

To save time with the Standard User Account ‘Bloatware’ Tidy Up, and despite what I said above about the few 3rd Party Applications installed for the Administrator Account, I am curious to know if we are able to duplicate the Administrator User Account Profile, to be Renamed and Changed to be a Standard User Account?

    As per the Suggestion made back in November 2016;

Would I be correct that another ‘Administrator User Account Profile’; “TEMP-ADMIN”, will need to be created and used to copy the Current ‘Administrator User Account Profile’ to potentially and ideally be Renamed and Changed to be a Standard User Account?

Or is the answer to this ‘Computer Says No’?

And my time spent trying to find the correct procedure to do the duplication, Renaming and Changing will be time I could have spent removing the ‘Bloatware’.

Thank you in advance for your guidance and advice.

    Kind Regards,

    DC4

    Hello Again,

When using typing 'SystemPropertiesAdvanced.exe' into Run box to get to the User Profiles applet I have found that it is only the Default Profile that may use the 'Copy To...' button.

Both my Admin user whom I was logged on as and the new Standard User have the 'Copy To...' button greyed out but have the 'Change Type...' Button available to use.

All Profiles have the 'Delete' button greyed out.

I will look forward to any feedback.

I don't actually now think that you can simply copy an existing use profile natively in Windows. If you are at all aware of the complexity of what is involved 'under the hood' it's truly 'non-trivial'.

I now actually think that Copy function is related to this:
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...ng-copyprofile

It's not easy to find clear documentation on it. I now think I was over-optimistic in that answer - i.e. wrong.

You do have options with some programs of installing them as 'for all users' or just the 'current user'. Not all offer that.

UWP apps are installed on a per user basis only.

Simple way- delete any shortcuts you don't want in a particular user's start menu.

    Dalchina,

    No worries.

Thank you for your quick feedback again.

I will stick with what I know and keep it simple.

It may take longer but it will be correct to my knowledge and experience.

    Cheers,
