    Amendment

Well, looks like the PIN is not disappearing, it's just not an option for logging in. I still have a PIN setup in Windows but I don't get the option to login with it.

As of last night the option to use the pin disappeared. I was able to use it all day. Then when I tried to sign in around 9 PM PT, I received an error message and had to switch to the password option. Now there isn't an option to switch back.

Thanks scantech. I had already tried resetting the pin which made no difference. Removing it completely as you suggested and then setting it back up worked.

I got that idea from Anthonyshill post...he did the removal thingy per his post and got the PIN option back, but it disappeared again 2 weeks later..

it appears this is a Windows 10 bug as my laptop is only 3 weeks old (this is my second new windows 10 laptop from BestBuy within a month)

the first was a Toshiba Satelite with intel I7 6500 (6th gen) with built in GPU (520), 8 gigs of ram..from day one the display would freeze (mouse to) and would do this daily multiple times..

I got this Asus with same Intel processor but 12 gigs of ram and an Nvidia 940 GPU...so far (after 2 weeks) I only experience this PIN thingy but occasionally my wife would experience the display lock up on facebook..mouse would still work but always have to hard boot to restore.

it appears win10 still needs some tweaking

Pin sign in option disappears in windows 10

If you have a Dell (I have an XPS13) and you installed "Dell Data Protection security tools"
Your option to sign in with a PIN will disappear.
    Here's the fix:
    1. Go to Control panel and choose programs
    2. Uninstall the 3 Dell Data Protection security tools..this takes a little doing because they have to be removed in a certain order, but I know you can do it.
    3. restart PC and run a registry cleaner if you have one (ccleaner, Norton Utilities etc)
    4. Open settings, Accounts and remove your pin. It will say "are you sure?, blah blah. Choose "remove"
    5. On the same screen, add a pin. It can be the same as your old pin
    6. Reboot
    7. It worked for me!

On an HP laptop, u can fix the missing PIN problem by disabling HP Client Security.

Initially, I had not set up HP Client Security and was using the built-in Windows 10 login policy. PIN was working.
After enabling HP Client Security the PIN option disappeared.

Open HP Client Security => Advanced Settings => Security Features => Uncheck Windows Logon Security

HP Client Security is very difficult to uninstall! I would recommend playing around with the settings before trying to get rid of it.
