Ahh - So THAT is why I am seeing what I am seeing. Yes Yes I know you are not supposed to use the Administrator account for every day use - its an old bad habit of mine. In Win-XP and Win-7, MS did not "discourage" doing that as much as they do in Win10. I had to activate the hidden Admin account and then make the necessary changes to allow the Admin account to be fully functional. Edge, Store, Weather, News, Mail all work fine though I don't use any of them anyway (well occasionally Store).

I, like many others, enjoy operating in the full Administrator account, unfettered by UAC prompts and being at an elevated level all the time. If there is one thing I can't stand, its my own Operating System fighting me at every turn. I really don't miss having to say YES I DO want to delete whatever - that is why I hit the DELETE key!!

Anyway, that explains it so thank you very much Kari for pointing it out to me. Maybe I will go back and set BillB to Admin and give it a go. I just spend a lot of time in the Registry, in Component Services and PowerShell, either tweaking performance settings or running down errors in the Event Viewer. It's surprising how many errors get logged and how many of them are caused by Permissions problems or DCOM settings in the OS. Most people never even look in the Event Viewer. I am not one of those people who fixates on every error and warning, but I have tracked down and resolved quite a few of them that are Win10 OS problems.

Anyway, thank you again - it makes perfect sense so I will mark this thread as SOLVED!!

    Hi Speedy Gonzo Bro,
(don't you just love how much your nickname gets changed up by me? haha, nothing bad though, I like your name so much I gotta give it the remix sometimes)

And you are SO Welcome!! I am so happy about the other post with the whole permissions deal; I give you permission to have that issue resolved =)
(One suggestion is that maybe from your original thread, (where we did not talk on), you can link to the one we all had a little chat on, stating that the suggestions there solved your problem, and mark your original thread as Solved, just in case someone else stumbles upon your original thread, then they can follow along to that link of where we talked, to help out the others.)

But no worries, I saw your post above mine with the pictures when they were there. No worries about your name, your name is Speedy Gonzales with 32GB of RAM. No wonder your name is SPEEDY! Computer so fast! hah, nailed it.

You're right though, I dunno if you wanna deal with the whole System Restore. I've had issues with that before, waiting a long time with no success when it finishes, in Windows 8.1 or whatever. Plus, you don't know what settings will be restored to the previous version where you'd have to change again or whatever. Plus, no guarantee that this might restore it back to the way that it should be.

This is probably some little bug in an update that might be recognized by Microsoft and they will release some small fix for it later in the future. I saw your Windows version in your picture when it was there, and it looked exactly like mine, looked perfect. (Except my computer isn't so speedy as yours; I only got 8 GB of RAM lol) You are 4 TIMES as fast as I am, SO FAST, TOO FAST. You gotta slow down a bit for me to catch up to ya bro.

But other than that I have no other suggestions, sorry. I would just ignore it for the time being, then maybe in a month or so when your brain decides to remember this again, check it see if it went back to normal, if not, repost this.

But still, hopefully someone else has other suggestions to post below my post and see what they think about it. You know? Good times.
Yes I will go back and mark the original thread as solved and place a link - actually to unclepine's thread b/c that is where the solution is. I need to go back to his thread and see if your fix worked for him too.

As for SPEED - Yes - I have my CPU overclocked to 4.5GHz, Cache at 4.2GHz and 32GB of DDR4 Quad Channel RAM running at 3000MHz. I'm water cooling the CPU so I can overclock it and keep operating temps under reasonable loads around 40C. Clocking the RAM up that high takes some careful tweaking in the BIOS but theoretically it should be stable all the way up to 3333MHz though I have not been successful at pushing it that far (yet). I also have 2 x R9-290OC GPUs running in Crossfire and an SSD for the OS.

WHY do I do this? So I can run the latest bleeding edge games and run complex 3D models and high resolution rendering? NO. I basically use this computer to check my email, surf the web, and pay my bills. I do it for the fun of it - the challenge, and to learn. I used to do a lot of AutoCad work, which does require some processing and graphics horsepower. My son started doing a lot of gaming and basically took over my CAD machine because the computer I bought him wouldn't cut it. So this past summer I told him if you want a fast machine then we will build a custom one together so you can learn how it all works and appreciate what goes into it. So we saved up our pennies and bought each component when we could find a sale, and slowly pieced it together. The old CAD machine was Speedy III. This new one is, of course, Speedy IV and it IS pretty Speedy. There are guys out there cooling with custom loops or even LN2 (liquid nitrogen), with faster CPUs, hitting the 5GHz barrier, and WAY better GPUs but I am pretty happy with my little Speedy IV !!

    Thank you again!

There's a reason why the built in Administrator is disabled by default. Logged in as Administrator all malware is similarly "unfettered by UAC".

Hi Speedy. I just read your latest reply. That's pretty cool. Gotta take full advantage of a system that you built to put it to good use! Good to hear that.. and That's why your name is Speedy IV. I was wondering why "4"? Because there was a "3" before that. =D

You are quite correct about the increased risk of using the full Administrator account and the increased risk of a disabled UAC. I am not recommending operating this way to anyone. It is just my personal preference. I use Windows Defender (after many years of using 3rd party virus programs) and Malware Bytes to protect my system, and I run full scans often. I also run full Acronis backups weekly with daily incremental backups, set Restore Points anytime new software is introduced, and burn an image DVD weekly. With these measures in place, I feel reasonably protected with several paths to recovery in the event of something catastrophic. So far (knock on wood), I have not had any issues. Again, my personal preference and not recommending to anyone else. Thanks for the warning!:)

Yes that is why SpeedyIV. I name each computer I build (OK maybe kind of dorky) but they are sort of like living things - almost like children. Each one cost more than I planned, is different, has its unique idiosyncrasies, and needs attention all the time... BTW I checked back in unclepine's thread abot the missing icons. Looks like he dropped off. I hope he resolved his issue..

No bug, no screwed up update, OP has absolutely no issues, at least not the one mentioned in first post.

There's nothing wrong in your Windows, other than that you are signed in to wrong user account. The built-in administrator account is not intended and should not be used for normal daily computing, that's why for instance UWP apps (Windows Store apps like Edge, Weather, Mail and so on) do not work using it, nor can you add family members or manage family accounts.

Your screenshots in first post clearly show you are signed in as built-in administrator. Screenshots also clearly show that you are not signed in to a local domain or Azure AD (Family & other users is completely missing from domain / Azure AD joined computers).

If your normal user account BillB (according to screenshots) is not a local admin account, change it from standard to administrator, sign out from built-in admin account, sign in to your normal local admin account, and the Family & other people option will be there.

    Hi Kari,
So even when logged in with an Local account, the option Family&Others would be missing if the Computer has Joined an Azure AD?
