"Act as part of the operating system"

Act as part of the operating system: Security Configuration Editor; Security Services

What is this user right, it seems quite juicy and useful. If I apply it to myself will I be able to "impersonate" TrustedInstaller? That article is rather vauge on what this actually does

I doubt you could impersonate TrustedInstaller, or any of the sytem accounts for that matter. TrustedInstaller is a system, not a user account. Windows makes a distinction between them.

Lol. here it is on Windows 10. It's also on XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1...

This is my point, there's only old information about what this setting really does.

Well, Microsoft is very clear in all the documentation to NOT assign this right to normal users, but to rather use the LocalSystem account which has this right inherently.

Giving yourself this right would allow your user to run an application that can build an access token to impersonate another user, such as TrustedInstaller, but you can't really utilize this from your account alone. You would have to use the Win32 API to write an application that would do this.

LocalSystem? How would I log in as that? I have never seen such an entry anywhere.

You can't log in as LocalSystem. Mystere was referring to programmers documentation.
