    [W10 22H2] Not Full Administrator/Ownership rights?

    Hi,

    I have a laptop at my disposal which is no longer part of a domain, but we have a feeling that we do not have full ownership or access rights on this machine (and especially the network settings).

    For example:
    The current LAN adapter/connection can not be remade. We tried disabling and deleting the connection but we are not allowed to delete it.
    Problem is the current LAN adapter is set to "Public" when it should be on "Private" network profile. But we currently have no way to change this.

    To try and reinstate all the regular settings/policies we ran the following 2 commands in an elevated prompt:
    Code:
    RD /S /Q "%WinDir%\System32\GroupPolicyUsers" && RD /S /Q "%WinDir%\System32\GroupPolicy"
    gpupdate /force
    Even after a reboot, this did not give us additional rights to make some system changes.

    Can anyone please explain how we take back full ownership of this device?

    It will have a group policy in force set by domain are you using local admin account? Quickest fix is to reinstall

    The standard recommendation when inheriting some other PC is to wipe clean and clean install.

    That way you are free of anything that might otherwise catch you out.

    Anything from accounts, passwords, permissions, policies.. can you access the BIOS/UEFI - or is that protected?

    Clean installing doesn't affect activation in normal circumstances. Coming from a domain environment you may face different issues - I don't know.
