I never was a fan of OneDrive.
Like many Microsoft products it has an authoritarian approach and often has/creates more problems than benefits.
As the old proverb goes: you get what you pay for.
They give you 5 GB for free and if you want more they want to extract from you some Dineros with a recurring subscription.
Considering the low 2 digit cost of external USB 3 sticks or SSD's why not go that route?
Also enter this in a search engine and you will find many answers: "why does one drive automatically backup" or "how to disable one drive automatic backup".

I checked out those articles. Haven't tried it yet, but probably will tomorrow. I had been grandfathered into a 40Gig and 15Gig drive around 2015. Anyhoo, you're right, with SSD space as cheap as it is there's no reason NOT to go use that. I just worry about a fire or something. I also have MegaSync, which is pretty good.

I finally had to reformat my C:\. I had a very unexpected BSOD that I just could not recover from. I've re-installed, and now I'm culling a LOT of useless files from another cloud drive (MEGASync) where I have 400Gig. I just wanted a safe cloud location in case of a fire, AND where I could download from my phone if necessary. Thanks for the help. I'm marking this SOLVED.

Yep. I too tear down the whole house and rebuild all when the front door jams...
