I downloaded the Hiren's file but can't open it, just get that b....y screen again.
I definitely never added a password when installing w10
I doubt hacking as I scanned with Malwarebytes and Avast but anything is possible I suppose
I remember I didn't disable UAC on install, I was going to do it after setting up the next day but of course I couldn't.
I find it amazing there is no workaround for this other than nuke it and start again!
It's winter and cold where I am now and my computer is like a warm fuzzy room..............Lovely until you open windows

That recommendation was based on the information you provided.

That is a significant change to the situation.

1 The user account you created during installation is an Admin account. How does that account behave?
2 Why has the normally-disabled Built-in admin account been enabled?

If you upgraded from W7, you may have inherited the accounts you had on W7 - have you by any chance got more than one account available, and you were using 'the other one' when you managed to update the driver? Of course, W10 defaults to the last used account, making this unlikely - but who knows?

Can’t open the file? HBCD is a boot ISO. Make a disc or bootable usb drive with it, boot from that and it loads its own PE. Windows has 0 say in it. The only thing that would stop this solution from working is if your BIOS has a password… if downloading/saving a file requires Admin creds, you have a much larger problem.

Thanks to all for your help and suggestions and to follow up:
    I stuffed it up completely
Without going right into it.....I fiddled with this, I fiddled with that, I tried this and tried that and finally got my sticky fingers in to the BIOS and...............yep, nuked something proper. Finally couldn't get into boot manager so bit the cartridge and took the damn thing to the computer vet. It's in the hospital now, gonna cost me $99 to get it back to normal so maybe I should stick to the old adage "If it aint broke, don't fix it"
Oh well, open another bottle of red and go sit in the winter sun and relax
