thanks all, I'll be back if need assistance :)
I ended up downloading the 'clone' of my hard drive back onto my laptop.
10 has gone some very interesting and innovative features which I really want to utilise...but I wont attempt to re-load 10 for quite a few months until the initial glitches and bugs have been ironed out.
Windows 10 strikes again!
One of the new features of 10, is that it transfers all kinds of data between any computer that is registered to the same MS account holder. Useful feature for some situations, but not in all instances.
Despite re-installing my OS 8.1 onto my laptop, Microsoft has automatically transferred all my browser 'favourites' and 'Apps' from my desktop to my laptop and vise-versa. NOT A FEATURE OF 8.1 but still quite useful.
However, why would I want/need all my HP lappy 'apps' to my Del desktop and my Del desktop's onto my HP laptop? So I tried them out and lo and behold, they won't work, as they only can be used on the applicable machine. So I deleted them on the 'incorrect' machines, only for Microsoft to automatically re-install them!
As I see it, the only way to avoid this situation is to do a clean re-install of my laptop, as if were a new machine, and set up a different e/mail address for the MS account. Then I would have to spend hours having to re-install all the updates, drivers etc etc...hour's of work!
I'm not impressed!
I never set a password and yesterday one started asking for one. I kept typing things into it and after a while it allowed me in. The other computer never had this issue. also one system went from Win7 it had no issues with PW,the other went from Win 8.1 it had password issue.
Another strange item the computer that had Win7 is in many ways like the same items as before, the other that had Win 8.1 has a different interface to things. Both have Win10 now but both not the same.
One thing to look out for is how you are signing in. There is an option to change from a password to PIN, and back. I had a similar issue where my password was not working, until I noticed under the password box there are the options to change the type. Somehow I switched it to PIN. I switched it back to password, and it worked the first time.
Yea all the stuff they try to make life more convenient in the end turns into a major hassle sorry to hear your need to reinstall your original what a project/headache!
I wonder is there a way to unsync only certain apps etc... before you go ahead I know on Google Chrome browser I think you can do each item separately though finding where the settings are is cumbersome, try and see if you can find similar settings for your MS account.
Come to think of it I did enter in a PIN when I was signing up for XBOX as it prompted me to choose but it was my understanding it would be for XBOX login or so I thought it never said it would be for me to login to my machine! What is the difference between a PIN and Password?
I do have a picture I took of my failed attempts to logon and it says wrong password so Im assuming I was under a password system I did not see any other choice for PIN though the eyes are not as good as they once were.
You can chose what is synched between devices. If you want to sync bookmarks and wallpaper but not apps for example you certainly can. You can't sync only certain apps though.
