    Windows 10 UAC problems

In order to disable Windows 10 UAC I had to make a manual registry adjustment.....simply moving the UAC slider to the bottom still left controls in place even after several re-boots.

However, I now find that if I wish to use Microsoft Edge, Mail, Solitaire Collection etc I get a message stating that the application "can't open whilst UAC is turned off." So basically I have to turn the controls back on to access them.

Is this intended and is there a way to stop this and use the programs? If this is intended then it makes the upgrade to W10 pretty pointless!

Hello uncleadolph, and welcome to Ten Forums.

Windows apps from the Store (aka: modern apps) cannot run in an elevated account or elevated explorer process. When you disable UAC, that elevates the account. It was the same in Windows 8/8.1 as well.

Many thanks. As you will have gathered I didn't have Windows 8, the upgrade was from Windows 7 so I wasn't aware of this.

The answer is obviously disappointing but not much anyone can do about it.
