I already did something similar. I just added a user called Guest User" with no email or other information.

    Thanks for your help.

    answer

problem is the Guest user is not a member of the Users group.

do the computer management / local users thing and properties of guest user and add it to the Users group.

voila, it shows up as a user.

edit: while it shows up as a users in switch account, if i do it it comes back to login screen and guest is still not an option... weird...

hello, this was irritating me too till i decided to do it the way i add users to an active directory enviornment. just open cmd prompt as an admin and type " net user (the user name, in my case test) /add"

    so net user test /add
net user test password -this is to add password, just type the password where the word password is
net user test /delete - if you decide to delete it. Hope this helps

I followed your tutorial and found out that the created account was not a guest account actually. It was a standard account which is a member of the Users group. A real guest account should belong to the Guests group only.

So after creating a standard account, we should use @bitkahuna 's method to add the account to the Guests group, and remove it from the Users group. I hope these help!

Right click the start icon, click on computer management, under the local users and groups own the users folder, right click the guest account and go to properties, uncheck account is disabled then hit apply, reboot.
Using this method, creating a guest account worked. But when i log onto the guest account i've gotten the shell infrastructure host bug and now I can't get back to my admin account. I was wondering if anyone who experienced this bug has a fix for it.

I recently upgraded to the latest version of Windows 10 (1511) and was playing around with the Guest account.
I enabled the Guest account in Control Panel, and checked using (Net User Guest) to see that it was active. I did not set a password for the Guest account.
However the Guest account would not show up in the login screen, even though it was enabled.
I checked the local group policy (Edit Group Policy from Start menu) and under Computer Configuration, Windows Settings, Security Settings, Local policies...... there are 2 policies that affect Guest account.
    1. (User Rights Assignment - Deny Log on Locally) Guest account was present.
    2. (Security Options - Accounts: Rename Guest Account) Enabled

I changed so that Guest account was allowed to logon locally, then tried logging in. It took some time to setup the profile but then the screen flashed a few times and I ended up with the Shell Infrastructure Host crashed error, and had a blank desktop with no taskbar, etc.

I created another "guest account" called Visitor and added it to the Guests group, and when I logged in it worked fine.
I suspect that the Rename Guest Account group policy setting may have had something to do with the Guest account login problem but I did not test disabling it.
Seems like the Guest account could not complete the setup of the windows profile (Showing you the Hi message, etc)

I am happy using the other Visitor account anyway.

Never enable the hidden built-in guest account in Windows 10! After logging to the built-in guest, the screen will keep flashing and there seems to be no way to fix that issue. While it's OK, if you create a new guest account:
