With FF and other variants opening a new session in a Private window is what will allow you to get the MS page. The tracking protection involves protecting browsing history not just the text files for each site. The idea behind that is to prevent sites from knowing too much about your browsing habits not the particulars about individual sites you visit which is where cookies apply.

Not one problem navigating all MS sites with the latest Opera release however which is also preferred here far more then Chrome or Flock! Both of those could be identical twins apart from naming. But due to problems like this that come up with one browser or with several as in the case of being FF based while Cyberfox doesn't seem to be effected as the others are I decided to run with several onhand for any of those "just in case" moments.

...Only one upgraded computer left the security software intact, while the rest failed - major bummer. Not much from the software developer on any issues with Win 10 - unbelievably.

This begat a reinstall from scratch, since the Win 10 auth code remains valid with the machine.

The security software reinstalled on top of that worked for one computer. Now onto the rest...
UPDATE: All installed correctly. Thanks to the folks here for the help provided.

I now have an issue with an update being stuck on the "Configuring Update ... 99%" for hours on one computer. Posted that on another more relevant thread for assistance there.

Whenever you run into a frozen 99% typically you will end up needing a hard boot to free the system up if you are not able to bring up the Task manager to end the update process. After a full restart you can make a fresh attempt to see if the update will go on and finish up without freezing on you again.

If stuck on a solid at a certain percentage during the RS1 update I hit the reset and watch as the upgrade install then has to start from where the initial reboot was started. Had a couple of builds hang like that both on physical and on VM too. First try the TM however to see if you can free it up.

Can never tell?! MS may be covertly making some changes were eventually you will only be able to get onto some MS sites by way of Edge? Since Google has recently become an OS competitor with all their stuff including Chrome as well as FF having always been a favorite alternative to IE over the years it doesn't much to mess with a little coding?

The other factor that seems to prevail however is something new being seen in the browsers themselves preventing arrival at the MS download center. That was something noticed sometime back as far as an FF update for the present FF 47 as well as two out of the three ff variant browsers suddenly running into an MS sign in page regardless of already being signed into an MS account.

Thanks, hadn't thought of Task Manager, though the 99% was during the boot up process - would CTRL-ALT-DEL get one to TM dialogue?

Anyway, did a power down, and after getting it to reboot correctly to Win 10, ran a "Check for Updates" - it shows the update but proceeding with the update looks like it is doing something, though finishing rather quickly, but reboot brings up the very same version after "Check for Updates" again. Haven't checked since last posting, as this was not causing any critical failure in use of the computer.

My guess is I will have to clear update history manually and let it rescan everything from scratch. Here's my post on this in another thread (don't want to hijack this one, thanks)...

Well there is one thing I can here since any number of people may run into similar WU issues and that would be the Windows Update Troubleshooter tool. Every so often the functioning of the WU gets impaired a bit and may need a repair.

    Windows Update Troubleshooter

    Help from Microsoft
The idea of running the Task Manager or seeing a hard boot is when any update might hang during the download and install. When the RS1 update didn't even show up on the main, the secondary running Insider builds, the 10 laptop bought several months back, and the recent last minute upgrade of another 7 desktop I simply ran the MC Tool with the immediate online update not doing anything, the tool wouldn't reuse an existing flash drive previously used, and I ended up downloading the iso directly followed later by the separate 32bit and 64bit dual edition iso from the MS download page. The MC Tool's downloaded iso was then simply mounted to run the upgrade install.

For anyone experienced at custom installing Windows and formatting, partitioning drives, etc. I would highly recommend downloading the correct iso to have on hand anyways for later repair if needed as well as getting this particular stubborn for some update to even go on! I also recommend disconnecting all hard drives other then the main OS to prevent an issue known to exist with the 10 installer to see if that will then allow a normal upgrade to update take place.

The guide here will instruct on how to get the latest iso and then it will be up to you to decide on which method to try out. You may simply have to switch installation method to get results. After all pcs here saw the update installed I then extracted the contents of the MC Tool's iso to rewrite existing 10 media to have the updated version available.

USB Flash drive problems can have different causes at times from the findings over the years here. Notoriously the most often seen may simply be the brand of drive while the second leading cause is what the flash drive is being plugged into. The third leading cause missed often enough as well is the simple need to unplug and then replug the flash drive back in for a fresh detection of the drive itself.

For a system running 24/7 you may have to see a full system restart to refresh the OS which in turn will then be able to freshly detect all drives. As for usb hubs you plug in but lack an ac wall adapter drawing power only from a port the port or hub become suspect unless only certain brands will be seen. Most reliable found for non powered usb hubs are San Disk and Kingston. Others like PNY, HP, Memorex, and other generic labels failed often. On self powered hubs like Cyberport on the other hand most brands will show up automatically.
