Aha, some of my settings were reset during the Nov update to build 10586. Privacy >Background apps all turned back on, System Restore too. Network Discovery also turned back on. Didn't take that long to put it all back but glad to know it wasn't something I did wrong. Was concerned I would be going thru this with every new build. So happy to know MS is on top of it. :)

Anyone know why size of the .iso file downloaded by Media Creation Tool is different since october? Downloaded an iso back in october and the size was 3,20GB but the one which I downloaded yesterday is about 300MB lighter, 2,93GB.

Different build numbers. In October you would have downloaded build 10240. The current build that gets downloaded is 10586. Also I think MS switched from install.wim to install.esd as well.

I guess you are aware that there was a new release at the end of November?

Interestingly I clean installed the latest insider build 14251 and it is smaller still. I'm not sure what MS are doing but making is smaller is certainly something they are trying..

Look at a clean install of latest insider preview 14251. Pretty small huh?

I was trying to reset a Win 10 Pro machine, it's been acting weird, and would like to try a fresh installation.

Bue when I try to use the Media Creation Tool it doesn't give me the option to select Windows 10 Pro, is this normal?

    thanks

Yes, the downloaded image will contain both Home and Pro versions. If the installation detects a product key stored in bios, it will automatically install the version the key in bios is for. If not, then it will ask you what version you want to install.

The Threshold 2 Update is what you get either when using the Media Creation tool or when seeing a direct "Windows.iso" download from the MS Tech Bench Program site. The difference being while both see the same 10586 version 1511 build the MC tool downloads a "4 in 1" iso(both editions in both 32/64bit flavors) while when you are at the Tech Bench download page you have the choice between the 32bit or the 64bit "2 in 1" or dual Home/Pro iso in one flavor or the other.

When you are running the 10 installer from within Windows while booted into the present build or even for a previous version you are seeing the upgrade type of install where the 10 installer automatically detects the correct upgrade path for you. If you boot live from the 10 media created and select the Custom not Upgrade option you are then seeing a full clean install were you are first prompted to the flavor(32bit or 64bit) and then subsequently prompted to select which edition(Home or Pro) that will be going on.

Now when needing to repair 10 for some reason like a buggy upgrade install if not simply going for a first time upgrade but decide to mount the Windows.iso file on a virtual optical drive you would be looking at the setup.exe file from a differnent angle there.

I followed the instructions in the "Windows 10 ISO Download" tutorial and everything was fine until I tried to burn the .ISO. The size of the file is 5,618 and the DVD can hold 4,482.
I wish the tutorial had said that choosing "Both" (64 and 32) would result in a file too large to fit on a single DVD.
