Maybe I wasn't clear enough. I have the ISO from Techbench.

The following will give me an error.

So I need an ISO to use as a source. Anyway, I tried that 10586.0 ISO that I have, although it's not the correct version.

To my surprise, it succeeded. But then when I try sfc /scannow, it still fails.

EDIT: sfc /scannow finally worked, with the second attempt.

With all the problems I've experienced lately with Windows10 I figured it'd be prudent to burn an ISO image to a DVD. I downloaded the Media Creation Tool to the desktop of my Windows 10 laptop, started running it and got to the point where I told it I wanted an ISO file and where to put it.

I then got this screen where it says 'Getting a few things ready'. After 90 minutes of nothing beyond that I canceled it using taskmgr. I then got another blue screen where it tells me it's cleaning things up before it exits. A half hour later even THAT screen was still circling. I again had to use taskmgr to kill it.

Then I used a Windows 7 tower and selected the first option - to Download a Windows 10 ISO from Microsoft TechBench. Now THAT download is sitting here for 20 minutes with 'Validating your request. This may take several minutes, etc.'

What is going wrong here. I'm obviously having a bad day, but really...

I killed the task in the Windows 7 PC and retried that first option again. This time it's downloading, saying the 64 bit Home Edition will take 4.1 GB. Since a standard DVD will hold 4.7 GB, can I still burn that image to a DVD?

Presently downloading the combined 4 in 1 iso option to a folder on the 7 Ultimate VM being run on WS 12 Player now at 15% in under 5 minutes. Compared the MC Tool downloaded from another MS page to the one linked in the guide here and still found the exact same tool where you can save the download as the "Windows.iso" file. I renamed that to "Window 10 Pro x64 via MC Tool.iso" for clarify since the iso will be mounted on a separate partition created on the VHD there to see the full upgrade take place.

The first test will be to see if the upgrade comes out buggy or not on VM since the initial upgrades on the first desktop and a laptop did! Successive upgrades from 10 over 10 being seen since however have been going too smoothly without bugs. By checking the recommended box this will release the auto detected upgrade path for seeing additional downloads to use on other systems where you might have the Home edition instead Pro going on if not vice versa. You can also manually select the 32bit or 64bit or see both editions in either.

Does the ISO download using the Media Creation Tool include latest updates ?

I would need to redo the flash drives heres since the first pair where 10240 with another used for the 4 in 1 Tech Bench project. Besides the MC tool however I keep a few of the BT folders and rename those to the newer build's number more or less to preserve the set up files for any manual start ups. You can start up the 10 installer manually by simply browsing to where that is stored in the event you need to repair the present install.

But regardless of which you end up with you could always enable the Get insider builds option long enough to grab the latest Insider Preview build and be ahead of the game as far as the Threshold 2 update is concerned. You would run with that until July when the next 1st anniversary Redstone 1 general release is seen which will have some new options. Of course that will also be when the free upgrade off expires as well and everyone will then have to pay for 10. So MS wants things in primo shape by then!
