It's stuck on getting updates? Try disconnecting your Internet connection, and after a short time(couple minutes), it should start installing. When I had a Mobile Broadband metered connection(7 Mb/s) it would stick for me too.

Nope, it is not stuck. It is updating although very slow. Only 24 % till now and now it has been close to 4 hours! Mind you it is the already downloaded ISO file that is doing its thingy and not the Media creation tool!

Think the file got corrupted while downloading?

Nar, be patient and let it eventually finish. Otherwise, you'll have to start all over again.

Hey Brink, I have finally been able to upgrade to Windows 10. Thank you so much!! This method worked for me! I downloaded the ISO file through IDM,and ran the setup. The process did take time, more than 7 hours but I'm extremely happy with the end result Those who still don't have the Get windows 10 button, or are getting some sort of Error with Media creation should try the direct method only

I have few more questions- 1. What's a Clean Install ? and Why do I wanna do a clean install on my system ?

    2. Windows 10 is free for lifetime right, no subscription charges after one year ?

    2. My system came with Windows 8 pre-installed & If I ever have to refresh my laptop, will it go back to Windows 8 ?

    Q1) https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1...n-install.html

    Q2) Correct.

Q3) No. A refresh would still be for Windows 10.

I finally threw my hands up a month ago. Lo and Behold one day after doing Win updates there appeared a Win10 update. Shucks, I clicked on it and it installed with no problems. All that crap I tried and nothing worked. Who knows. I did the same on my other two machines and just waited until it showed up in Win update. All of them worked. Lesson learned - just wait and don't jump the gun. Now on to my wife's laptop, he he. Hey, I gave it to her, I'm allowed to screw it up.

Download using Media Creation tool stuck at 72%

When the direct update failed, I started using the Media Creation Tool to download win10 64bit. However after it reaches 72% it freezes. I looked into the directory and found the file c:\$windows~ws\sources\panther\setupact.log where I found the following message :
    "2015-10-09 15:48:26, Info MOUPG Transfer progress: [71%]2015-10-09 15:50:46, Info MOUPG Transfer: 72%, Totals: 12156.42s, Bytes: 2137.252MB, Rvg: 2.356 Mbps, Tvg: 1.407 Mbps
    2015-10-09 15:50:46, Info MOUPG Transfer progress: [72%]
2015-10-09 15:51:18, Warning MOUPG Bits Error: Fatal = [No], State = [TransientError], Error_Context = [BG_ERROR_CONTEXT_REMOTE_FILE], hr = [0x80072EFE], Description = [The connection with the server was terminated abnormally]".

I also looked into the file c:\$windows~ws\sources\panther\diagwrn.xml where i found the following message :
    "<z:row Cls="D" Sev="50331648" Maj="Def" Min="Def" LN="412" Fil="" Fun="CSetupDiagnostics::LogString" Uid="51019776" Msg="Bits Error: Fatal = [No], State = [TransientError], Error_Context = [BG_ERROR_CONTEXT_REMOTE_FILE], hr = [0x80072EFE], Description = [The connection with the server was terminated abnormally] " PID="4700" TID="9132" Con="" Exe="C:\$Windows.~WS\Sources\SetupHost.Exe" Mod="WINDLP.DLL" Err="14007" MD="" DT="2015-10-09T16:11:27"/>"

I have tried downloading atleast 4 times and each time after 72% download stops. There is nothing wrong with my network as I am able to access the internet. I cannot figure out the problem. Has anyone faced this problem?

    Thanks!

Hello Kraman, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

Both errors indicate the download was terminated abnormally by a loss of connection with the server.

If you are using any type of 3rd party download manager, try downloading the ISO without it.

You might also try download during off peak hours to see if that may help if Microsoft servers were overloaded at the time.

Thanks you for the response! I am using Media Creation Tool to download the ISO. Anyway will try to download at different times during the day as it is difficult to know when the servers are overloaded.
