I tried it for a few days a while back, but removed it after a few days, messed up my registry once, and that was the end of Windows Manager. I don't mind paying for a program that I like and trust, but when it screws my computer, no way. I also used to use Tweak for windows, its very much like your Windows manager, stopped using about 2 years ago. Prefer now to make the changes myself. Plus you have to upgrade every year and pay......don't like that much.
When using any program of this type you have to be careful. I do not use any of the automatic cleaning parts. I only use the parts that I know will not harm my PC. I have used this program since Windows Vista Manger and it is the best of it's type on the market. One just has to use it responsively. It is free for 30 days I believe and it is well worth the price.

    Hey Dick, :)

The yellow/blue shield overlay is for UAC to let you know that it will require administrator approval to "Run as administrator" when opened.
Well Brink I found a way to remove all those yellow/blue shields from the shortcut icons!!! Took me a while, but no more dam yellow/blue shields on my desktop. Ahhhhhhhhh Always makes ya feel good when you beat Microsoft. :)

Read the instructions again, there is a NOTE telling you how to create the key if its not there.

I just came across Winaero Tweaker (winaero.com). Only tried the shortcut arrow option which worked for me. Haven't tried the other options. Anyone else have any experience with this freebie?

Brink, thanks for these great downloads. They're very useful and I'm storing them in a folder for future use in case I need them.

You refer to a black solid square in your post. I'm not sure if that's what I'm getting now I've removed the arrow but on every shortcut icon I can now see a very thin pale square the size of the whole icon that seems to be in the background and it does seem to be transparent. Even after restarting my PC, it is still there. Any ideas on how to remove it?

    Rich
I realize everyone's taste is different. But for ME, the faint square is a PLUS, because it tells me which are shortcuts and which are not, while being so faint that it's not in any way annoying or unattractive.

    Hi!

So I tested this methods bit nothing worked...

My tip, just have this :

    "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Icons"

Create (if needed) string value and name it "29". That's all. Just 29. No value data and restart "explorer.exe" service.

    We have this :

Delete the new string value to have the arrow shortcut.
