OK hold the thought.......it worked, but I fear that WU will forever insists that I have an update waiting for Nvidia Drivers.
In GPedit.msc I entered that hardware ID and enabled that, I also enabled the item that allows Administrative override of driver installations.
Once I OK'd all that again my current grtphaics driver was immediately disabled, that is the effect I don't think should happen, however I then went to install the latest driver and succeeded.
I ran WUShowHide and once again it found Nvidia drivers which I blocked successfully.
Ran WU which still found an "update" (actually downgrade) but it failed to install.
Now I fear that will always happen when I'm installing other updates.
Oh Microsoft, why do you fix something that isn't broken?

    Dear Peter,

First things first. You copy and add all 4 Hardware IDs.
In the screen where you enter the Hardware IDs, please make sure that the option "Also apply to matching devices that are already installed" is NOT selected.
In order to work properly you need to finalize your NVIDIA driver and once done, disconnect from the internet and follow the process described in the Microsoft post I sent you.

When done reconnect your internet and should work.

This is an Nvidia GTX295 which has 2 GPU's - shows twice in Device Manager, one of those lines differs for the second one, so I guess I should be entering two lots of ID' in that case.
Will try what you suggest and report back.

By "finalize" I mean that conclude any updates with the driver you want to use, i.e. install the preferred driver and while doing that, shut down your internet connection in order to prevent WU to do anything to your driver.
Then follow the procedure (with no internet) and once done, connect to the internet again.
Mind you that this solution will not prevent WU from reporting that the driver needs to be updated. If you let it proceed with the upgrade (downgrade in your situation) the Group Policy will prevent any change to the existing driver and thus it will not be updated. The only thing will be that the downloaded by WU driver files, will remain in your WU store location. To my opinion this is a very small price to pay, considering that you won't have your driver downgraded every once in a while, by WU.

Please also mind that if you decide to update your driver in the future, most likely with a new version from NVIDIA you will have to go back to the Policy Editor and disable the Policy, until you finish your update.

    Hope this helps. Dimitri

Yes it did help and thank you Dimitri. I'll just put up with that failed driver. For the longest time time WuShowHide worked fine for it but I suspect some change to the way updates are handled with this Anniversary Update may have broken it.

I think you're right about WuShowHide.
If you try to download it now from Microsoft, it has a different option for the Anniversary update. To be honest from what I understood from the Microsoft site, no option at all.

Hi...If you do not need any of those updates and drivers and your system is working fine,...then I would check mark the one s you dod not want and hide them....they will not download after.
