    Thank you for your reply....

And if nothing else helps you can of course try an in-place upgrade repair install.

That has been superceded by the 13th September KB5017308 CU so I thought you meant that given the date of your post.
    I suggest you try KB5017308.

    Best of luck,
    Denis

    Bob,

Sorry, I started typing & my brain clearly fell out.

The KB5017380 Preview CU contains no security updates and is, as you say, optional.
You can wait for the proper CU on the second Tuesday of October to get the latest security updates.
[KB5017308 CU was September's proper CU.]

    All the best,
    Denis

Thanks Denis for that info. I wasn't aware of that connection to the next month update. I'll wait until next month and see how it goes. The machine probably won't get any activity between now and then.

    Bob,

Yes, the 2nd Tuesday of each month's CU is always the one with the security updates as well as any feature changes whilst the one later in the month [the "preview" one] does not have any security updates in it.

    All the best,
    Denis

    patches and security update KB5012170

    Hello ---

I been having issue with KB5012170 -- my laptop is old and does not support secure update and the boot disk is MBR

So is used wushowhide.diagcab to hide the update --- that seemed to work but the update is showing up again and is failing to install. I check with the update catalog and notices that KB5012170 is part of update 2022-12 and 2022-08 --- so does
    wushowhide.diagcab consider KB5012170 as unique / different update for 2022-12 and 2022-08?

Windows does recognise that some frequently re-issued update KB numbers are separate updates.
You could ask in KB5012170 DBX - TenForums if anybody knows the state of play for the particular one you mention.
It certainly sounds like it is recognised as a separate update upon each issue judging by your experience.

Almost all updates have an explanatory thread like that one in the TenForum News section so it's always worth checking for one when you have questions about specific updates.

    Best of luck,
    Denis

    Welcome to TenForums.

It's really worth making time to browse through the Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every page.
    - At the foot of the Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
    - I download a new copy each month.
    - By downloading it as a spreadsheet I can benefit from Excel's excellent filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
    - Tutorials are also listed by category at Tutorials - there's also a shortcut to that at the top of every page.
    - Both tutorial lists are searchable.
    - You can also search for TenForumsTutorials in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com/tutorials after your search term. For example,
    taskbar toolbars site:tenforums.com/tutorials

You can search TenForums using the search box in the top-right corner of all TenForums webpages or using Advanced Search - TenForums
    - You can also search TenForums threads in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com after your search term. For example,
Search for drivers by HardwareID site:tenforums.com
    - [This is what the search box in the top-right corner of TenForums webpages does automatically]

it appears that the Hide/Show Updates (wushowhide.diagcab) tool is starting to show a "deprecation" message in Windows 11, saying that troubleshooters will be moved and the tool will be retired.

the "deprecation" message doesn't seem to appear when running wushowhide.diagcab in Win10.
