Windows Update Automatic Updates - Enable or Disable in Windows 10

Have you noticed any adverse effects since you've disabled those tasks? Have you tried updating any store apps since you've done that?

Sometimes you don't notice at first some of the effects of turning off certain tasks

I wonder, does disabling WU actually work on Pro version anymore?
When I try group policy or registry editing, I still get WU set to automatic.
I have played around with some policies, so maybe I have messed up something.

I have not noticed anything broken, but you need to check those 2 tasks, they enable by itself, better to delete them.

    schtasks /DELETE /TN "Microsoft\Windows\UpdateOrchestrator\Schedule Scan" /f
    schtasks /DELETE /TN "Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\Scheduled Start" /f

Are you seeing the "Some settings are managed by your organization" message like in the example screenshots in the tutorial?

If so, it should be working for you.

I mean, that is says Automatic, no matter what setting, like it should be Notify with AUOptions set to 2 for an example.

It is not really an issue, since I use WUMT anyway, just wondering, why it ignores those settings. For me only?!

It shouldn't matter what is grayed out since the group policy setting will override it.

The real test is if you get an "Install" option instead of the updates just automatically installing when Windows automatically checks for updates.

Setting to use a metered connection is the best way to disable automatic updates though.

Thanks, I will test it, once some new update will be released.

The picture looks correct...though I noticed you're not an Insider...I am running five Windows 10 and three of them are setup thru this group policy regarding the Windows updates and are behaving as expected...each update notifies me first before any download and I use the 'Hide or Show' to control unwanted updates.*john

    Hi Brink,

I understand you have tried "Windows Update MiniTool" that allow users to select and deselect specific windows updates.

What's your verdict for it? Any complaints?

    Cheers.

    Hello M Sim,

I haven't used "Windows Update MiniTool" since I just used the built-in policies in Windows and tool from Microsoft instead.
