The media creation uses two files - Install.esd and mediaMeta.xml

Techbench uses Install.wim (preferred for use with DISM)
and does not contain mediameta.xml (which is a lock file)

some others have used the MCT, but exported the install.esd into an Install.wim

It's been discussed in other threads here at TF and (without digging out the threads and giving direct links), in summary, The MCT versions have install.esd files (versus install.wim at TechBench) and the inability to do DISM/source repairs for MCT versions seems to have to do with the compression used to store the files. I may not be giving you a precisely correct technical explanation but other TF members (probably @Kyhi or @topgundcp or @lx07) can give more info. It's not surprising at all that it worked for you with the Techbench version as this is what worked for me (on wife's 10 Pro laptop) after repeated failures using the MCT sourced ISO.

EDIT: LOL, OK, Kyhi on the spot. I failed to turn the page and see Kyhi had responded.:)

The explanation is in this post:

However, You can use the MCT version as mentioned above by @Kyhi or:

    1. Use the latest version of 7-Zip to extract the content of install.esd. For example: to a folder xxx on the desktop
    2. From Admin command prompt, use the syntax of dism as shown below:
      Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\xxx\windows /LimitAccess

I still have the same error with DISM cannot read the file even though I use the Wim from Tech Bench. Any idea?

There are two indexes in the ISO. One is labelled Windows 10 Pro technical preview. The second is labelled just Windows 10 Technical Preview. As I'm using Windows 10 Pro, I used the index 1. Is that correct?

It doesn't work. Why why why?

Index 1 is probably for Home version. Try index 2 for Pro.

So you mean the description is misleading? As index 1 is showing Windows Pro Technical Preview and index 2 shows Windows Technical Preview

Using 7-Zip to explore install.wim as shown in the screen shot. There are 2 folders: 1 & 2, 1 is for Home version. 2 is for Pro version:

Thanks for the screenshots. I tried both indexes and get no luck. It still shows the error 1392 The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable. That is strange as everyone seems to succeed with the file downloaded from tech bench

Try what I posted in post #142. Extract the folder #2 to desktop. If still does not work then you might have a corrupted ISO.

Sigh... Doesn't work. I don't know why. I guess I'm going to do a clean install as a last resort.
