How to Turn On or Off Automatic Recommended Troubleshooting in Windows 10

If something isn't working in Windows 10, running a troubleshooter might help. Troubleshooters can find and fix many common problems for you.

Starting with Windows 10 build 17704, you can keep your device healthy by automatically applying recommended troubleshooting for known problems.

Starting with Windows 10 build 18305, recommended troubleshooting is now fully functional. You may see recommended troubleshooting from us while we test the feature. These tests, marked as “sample recommended troubleshooter”, are safe to run and will not make any changes to your device. The tests help to ensure that the feature is working as designed and give you an opportunity to give feedback, so we can help keep your device working at its best.

    • Run automatically, don't notify me
Windows will automatically run recommended troubleshooters for problems detected on your device without bothering you.
    • Run automatically, then notify me
Windows will tell you after recommended troubleshooters have solved a problem so you know what happened.
    • Ask me before running (default)
We’ll let you know when recommended troubleshooting is available. You can review the problem and changes before running the troubleshooters.
    • Don't run any
Windows will automatically run critical troubleshooters but won’t recommend troubleshooting for other problems. You will not get notifications for known problems, and you will need to manually troubleshoot these problems on your device.
Note: Devices enrolled in the Windows Insider Program can’t select “Only fix critical problems for me".

This tutorial will show you how to change recommended troubleshooting settings to turn on or off running troubleshooters automatically for known problems for all users in Windows 10.

You must be signed in as an administrator to turn on or off recommended troubleshooting.

Update: New Windows 10 Insider Preview Fast Skip Build 18262 (19H1) Oct. 17 Insider - Windows 10 Forums

    Troubleshooting improvements

Don’t feel like troubleshooting? We’ve got you covered. In previous releases, if you noticed your PC was having a problem, you would have to find the right troubleshooter and then manually walk through all the different steps to resolve it. We hear your feedback that the time that takes to do can be frustrating – why not just automatically fix issues that you know how to fix and can detect? We agree! If an issue occurs we want to get you back up and running as quickly as possible, so with Build 18262 you’ll find a new recommended troubleshooting setting under Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot in Build 18262. This feature uses diagnostic data you send to deliver a tailored set of fixes matching problems we detect on your device and will automatically apply them to your PC.

We’re still hard at work on this feature so it’s greyed out right now in Settings, but stay tuned for updates in future builds!

Does Build 18262 have a selection to "DISABLE" the troubleshoot mode?

My build 17134.345 doesn't have that option as I dread windows 10 troubleshoot for its uselessness to detect and fix the simplest trouble.

    Hello @Rickerz,

This setting is only available starting with build 17704.

You should have it whenever the Windows 10 October 2018 Update is re-released to the public hopefully soon.

Just a heads up, there is a "Don't run any troubleshooters" option that isn't shown in this tutorial...
    Code:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsMitigation]
    "UserPreference"=dword:00000001
