    SUCCESS

another day gone - but the main thing is that I have finally got it working with no corruptions - checked with Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth and Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth - nothing found - I guess sfc /scannow is not needed, or should I do this to be sure?

There is still one grey cloud floating about - which I am hoping does not come my way (again) - that troublemaker Security update KB3074683 has so far not be downloaded in updates:

    Attachment 28593

That language bit is real weird - I upgraded 3 computers to W10 - all in English - and at no point did the process (MS) tell me I could not do that - so why all of a sudden it is a problem I can't fathom - but okay I just downloaded the German version, and started all over again.

For anybody else reading this who might be as in-experienced as me - and need to do the same - there was for me one bit in this that I got a bit stuck - did not know what I should do - so I will try to clarify that bit- maybe it helps. I had the USB Flash drive plugged for the (repair/re-install) the previous faulty upgrade - and the machine does it's thing a long while - and you just leave it to get on with it - but after some time a small dark purple (or something) window opens and you have to select something (can't remember but not difficult) - but then it moves on to the part where it asks you to put in your serial number - and here I got uncertain - I was doing a repair not a new install - in the bottom of this window there is a small text which allows you to seek other options (which I checked out because I was uncertain what to do - things like going back to old version/reset and such like - none of which I wanted/was right - and "so very typical of MS" there was no way to get back to that purple screen other than selecting the shut the pc down option - which I did because I had no other choice!). After restarting Computer I only got back to the same purple screen and serial number (or other options again) - took me a couple of goes at this - before I figured it out! I didn't put in any serial, went to other options, and shut down computer - then unplugged/removed the USB Flash drive and restarted the Computer - then finally you get into the Upgrade without serial number and get to keep all your stuff and apps! Typically you are given so little information and guidance when you are doing something like this, during the process - and before - for me it is one of the very major and extreme failings of MS - they think the whole world are carbon copy nerds like them - as though I have been the whole time sitting behind them, watching over their shoulder when they set all these things up! COME ON MS - WAKE UP!

MANY THANKS TO: Brink LittleJay (who no doubt has gone fishing to get over the horror of helping me) Xercaium and to everyone else who was sitting in the Arena laughing, cheering or booing

mind you, can't forget the one grey cloud still floating about KB3074683

UPDATE - ON THIS GREY CLOUD KB3074683 - just thought to check the uninstall updates - and KB3074683 is listed as being installed (but not in the update list - just like last time) so my hope is that it does not start a repeated attempt to re-install just like it did last time - fingers-crossed!
Glad to hear you got things sorted!!

after the upgrade proceed done..i activated the windows..slmgr /ato..done
then i turn on windows protection witch is not turn on by default..
after all setup is done..i start dism command..with source repair from that image i burn..

    As expected:
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:wim:K:\sources\install.wim:1 /limitaccess
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:esd:K:\Sources\Install.esd:1 /limitaccess
    both failed
Neither one of these are valid DISM Commands..
I have not found any reference to /Source:wim: or /Source:esd:

Normally the /source = the mounted image (mounted install.wim)

Go first page (Page 1) of this thread and see/read Number 6:

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:wim:D:\sources\install.wim:1 /limitaccess

(the D: in this or the K: in mine have to be replaced with your drive letter - mine was K

    .
Quite a few people had this update failure - me included - even though it was already installed - the failure was in that it kept trying to re-install - however - after doing the Windows Media Creation Tool re-install - I have not had any further trouble with this! Glad to hear that you have had no trouble bayustev.

As for your W10 install method I am not sure I fully understand this - my technical knowledge is sadly very limited - but you seem to have found a unique way of doing this W10 install (by re-installing W8.1?) - also using Windows Media Creation Tool! Well great you got the install done without problems.

Your Powershell commands have errors, also they show different from the commands you give in the screenshots.

I tried to check my sources using the DVD, but the disc doesn't ever spin up when I do this. Am I doing something wrong?
Is the install.wim file on the disc even readable?

    Hello Honeycomb,

Thank you. The screenshots are correct, and the commands have been corrected.

It's best to have the ISO with the install.wim file on the hard drive if able.

You'll basically just be doing an upgrade installation in your current Windows 10 to Windows 10 again.

Yes, just like using step 6 in the tutorial on the first page.
    Hi Shawn,

I'm having problems with my Windows 10 Pro 64, which I get, upgrading from Windows 7.
SFC and DISM are not working for me.
I have read your refresh windows image tutorial but for this I will have to install all my programs, etc.
So, I have seen this "upgrade from windows 10 to windows 10 again" that I assume will preserve all data and programs, right?
How can I do this? Do I need the windows key or it is like the upgrade from Windows 7?
    Thanks,
    Jorge

    Hi Jorge,

don't know if this helps but on Page 6 (Post: #58) I describe roughly the process I went through to "upgrade from windows 10 to windows 10 again". I described in #58 how at a certain point I got to a (I think) purplish screen (or some such colour) where you get asked to put in your Windows key - at this point I got unsure because I was worried that if I entered the key I would get a new (clean) install (did not know for sure if this was the case, but didn't want to take the chance)... I think you will find the rest in my #58 Post. (you do first need to download a W10 System copy onto a Flash - I think mine was 4GB which was large enough - but NOTE: it will delete anything else on the drive - best use a clean Flash) AND NO, doing it my way I did not enter my Key anywhere (just kind of repaired the old W10 - and kept all my stuff). Check out the whole 7 Pages for other details that might help. Good Luck!
