Thanks once again Shawn. Seems as though the 'Task Scheduler' would be my best option at the moment.

(and I'm still hoping to be able to run W10 at some point although as you know, my Dell just isn't playing ball at the moment :))

You're welcome. Hopefully the Dell will soon.

Shawn, on Win7 where performance problems arose after tray icon appeared, gwx update was uninstalled and hidden, gwx.exe was owned and deleted, reg keys deleted for gwx scheduled tasks.

Will user be be able to restore it later by reinstalling gwx update?

    Hey Greg,

Yep, they would just need to reverse the options in the tutorial to enable GWX again. :)

Maybe my bad eyesight meant I missed it but I didn't spot the caution, if one has already reserved a copy of Windows 10, the reservation should be cancelled before doing any of the options to stop W10 being offered again.
Also option 4, Windows will immediately offer that update again, it can then be hidden.

    Hey Peter, :)

You don't need to cancel your reservation before removing the W10 icon unless you just wanted to. This is only to remove the W10 icon to no longer see it.

Yeah, after you uninstall the update in Option 4 in Windows 7/8.1, you would want to hide the update to prevent it from being installed again. If the update doesn't show up immediately, it should show up after checking for updates.

OK thanks Shawn. I've hidden it on my main 7 until I am absolutely sure the upgrade in my other 7 and my 8.1 are OK....when the time comes.
