How to Turn On or Off Reading View in Microsoft Edge in Windows 10

Microsoft Edge is a new web browser that is available across the Windows 10 device family. It is designed for Windows 10 to be faster, safer, and compatible with the modern Web.

Microsoft Edge provides a reading view for a more streamlined clean and simple layout, book-like reading experience of webpages, without the distraction of unrelated or other secondary content on the page. This will bring whatever you're reading front-and-center. You can even change the reading view style and font size to suit your mood.

Starting with Windows 10 build 17074, Microsoft overhauled the look and feel of the reading and Books experiences in Microsoft Edge, bringing a new, consistent, more powerful experience across all your documents, whether they’re EPUB or PDF books, documents, or web pages in Reading View.

This tutorial will show you how to turn on or off reading view in Microsoft Edge for your account in Windows 10.

If the Reading view Turn On or Off Reading View in Microsoft Edge in Windows 10-reading_view.png icon is grayed out, then that webpage does not support turning on reading view for it.

If the Reading view icon is black, then reading view is currently turned off.

If the Reading view icon is blue, then reading view is currently turned on.

This must be one of Microsofts best browser additions, for the user and website owners. The ads, will be loaded and shown, in normal view, bringing in the needed income, and if the user finds the adds distracting when reading, they can switch to reading view, and just see the content they are interested in. Both are happy and served in the end. For the security conscious about compromised sites and zero-day exploits just install Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit.

Hello Shawn mate I use outlook.live.com as my email in Edge but there is no way or option to turning off the read aloud function.

For example if I type for for - a repeated word - the spellcheck gives me the read aloud option if I do not get the right click exactly on the underscored word again for example between the first "for" and the next "for" if I am trying to type real fast and hit the read aloud option it happily starts reciting all o the screen text.

Any way of disabling in this instance at all??

Just as a by the by it is a pity this feature could not be set up to type what one is writing ? possible without aftermarket software?

    Hello John,

You should be able to close the Read Aloud toolbar in Microsoft Edge to turn it off.
