I've been following this thread with great interest. The current solution to remove Folders from This PC is shown in my screen shot. I have Show all folders unchecked. A Windows 8 tweak was retained post upgrade (User Folder Group - Add to Navigation Pane in Windows 8).

Now, all Folders that were removed from This PC have also been removed from the User folder.

I want to remove them from This PC in the navigation pane, I want no Folders on the right side. But I do want them under the User folder in the navigation page.

Previous solutions did not give me this problem.

Hello Mike, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

For what you want, I think the only way would be to pin the folders you want to Quick access, and access them there instead.

I have to agree! In the Quick Access you can pin or unpin just about anything you want as far as folders go in that portion of the explorer window. In fact I keep a folder or two found on a separate drive even pinned there for ready access.

With a large number of folders on just he 2tb storage drive alone not including another 1tb drive plus two OS drives there's a hugh volume of folders to sift through! I simply remove some of the defaults and add the ones I go to most frequently. Yet the main view of the drives is still left unteathered by a clutter of folders that aren't needed!

Gary, that is not what I meant.

Previous solutions in this tutorial removed 1 and 2, but kept 3 intact.

The current solution removes the six folders of 1 and 2 from 3 as well (see my previous screenshot).

I like 3 intact. So basically, it would be great if this tutorial could provide steps for both scenarios. And I will dig for the previous reg files in the meantime.

If only MS would give us some tickboxes to work with.

BTW, Brink, thanks for the welcome and good job over the years!

Since I often place two explorer windows side by side for file, folder copying as well as moving files and folders I ended reworking things even further then what you saw back in Post #130. Here's the Control Panel as well as Libraries view back at the left while getting rid of those unwanted six folders taking up drive view space as well as seeing two separate catagories for drives.

The guide here made it possible for the rest by simply seeing those six folders removed entirely from view. And as many of us already someone has been busy for some time writing excellent guides to go by!

    Mike,

I was thinking something like this below that may work for you. They're pinned to Quick access so that you can access them via the navigation pane under Quick access, and still be gone from This PC.

I appreciate the suggestions, but pinning them to quick access it not an option. As it affects the file explorer jump list as well. I don't want it too cluttered.

Managed to get back to the way it was. Also removed the HomeGroup icon without having to disable the HomeGroup services.

That'll do for now and as long as it lasts.

Well for me losing the folders above the drives in the left column was second to seeing them gone above the drives in the main window. The All in One took care of those in the main window but I had to run each of the single folder tweaks one at a time first taking ownership with the right click option to see the permissions elevated. Then you heard the sound file assigned by Windows to the function as each was successfully applied.

I would say with the help of the singles as well as the first all in one I have thing now the way I prefer to keep them. :) That's with the user account main folder opened up no less. To see thing condenses further to reduce the total volume of clutter you can't get any more condensed then this to keep things plain and simple.

Anything else I need can be pinned inside the Quick Access and still be not seen simply by closing that up. What Shawn was showing was the default folders being left in the navigation pane there while the annoyance of seeing the same six in the main window was removed.
