The setting in the registry will override what you see in Settings.

You are unable to change it in Settings (option 1) since you either have it set in the registry (option 3) or custom size (option 2). If you undo option 2 and 3, you should be able to set option 1 again.
Thanks very much for clarifying that. For the record, I did not set the DPI in the Registry; that entry must have been placed there by Windows during installation (I didn't even know how to do it until I saw the instructions in the TenForums tutorial). Since I did set the DPI in my first Win 10 installation (by moving the slider), perhaps the value was written to the Registry then.

After writing the last time, I read some more on this site and found the suggestion that using compatibility mode for individual applications might help display issues, and that worked with dBase. I am feeling somewhat more optimistic that I can stick with Win 10.

Thank you for your help and patience.

I am new to this forum and have a display issue with my new Windows 10 desktop. My current display setting is 1680x1050. At this setting, the display is larger than I would like and everything is a little but fuzzy. Windows informs me the recommended setting is 2048x1152. This makes things smaller, but the task bar disappears below the bottom of the screen. Can I use the DPI scaling level to adjust this, and if so which of the 3 options is recommended? Thanks.

Hello skh, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

All three options are just different ways to set the same thing. I like to include different ways in case one option may not be available for someone for whatever reason. OPTION ONE would be the easiest one to use though.

Usually it's best to use the recommended screen resolution for your display.

It won't hurt to see if adjusting your DPI scaling may help any. The higher the DPI the larger everything will appear.

Brink. Thank you for the prompt reply. I would like things to appear smaller and be able to see the task bar of course. Will try adjusting the DPI settings and see what happens. skh.

I switched to the recommended 2048x1152 display setting (which hides the task bar) increased the DPI setting to 125%, and restarted my computer. the icons were larger but I still couldn't see the task bar. I then changed back to the 1680x1050 display setting, set DPI back to 100%, and restarted my computer. the display did not change. ie icons are the same and the task bar is still hidden below the bottom of the screen. Any suggestions? Thanks. skh.

You might check to see if you may have the taskbar set to auto-hide.

I checked and the task bar is not on auto hide. I'm curious why the display did not change after I reset it back to the original settings, 1680x1050 at 100% DPI.

Does your settings for this currently show what you set them for?
