Uugrade windows 8.1 on a virtual machine to activated windosw 10.

Another couple of questions for Brink.
I have a 8.1 installation on a hyper-v virtual machine that has the get windows 10 app. So, after I do the upgrade to an activated windows 10, I will be able to do a clean install and in would be activated?
And then would I be able to do an activated clean install on my main machine in a dual boot install? I would think that if I called MS and told them there was a hardware change it would work. What do you think?

    Almondman,

You would be able to do a clean install in the same VM and still be activated, but not on the host (main machine). These are treated like two separate computers.

But calling MS to activate because of a hardware change wouldn't work for the host machine, is that your opinion?
Also, thanks for all you do. [emoji1]

I wouldn't think so, not to mention that you would eventually get both invalidated if you ran both at the same time.

If I did try it, I wouldn't run both, I'd delete the VM. I might try it later. Like in a couple of months after I finish with almond harvest. If it works I'll let you know. [emoji1]

    Settings > Accounts

I finally managed to get my W10 to Activate.

I was poking around in the Settings page and I discovered that I needed to verify my account (again).
I'm sure I had to do this when I swapped to the Online Account.

Once I verified my account again W10 activated.

If your W10 Insider OS won't activate, check "Settings > Accounts" to see if you need to re-verify your installation.

So I must buy the Windows 10 Key, Correct??
Hello Brink - You mentioned you might be interested in how my case came out -
    1) I had a Windows 8 Pro disk. I used a portable DVD to load as a clean install onto my HP Stream PC-13 - Product - K3N16UA, w 2GB of Ram and out of 35 GB HD there was 22 GB available. During the process of loading Windows 8 Pro and Updating it I ran out of Space.
    2) I called HP and they agreed to send me Windows 8.1 restoration USB drive. That took about 2 hrs.
    3) I had gone to the Microsoft store so they could search for the Product Activation Key from my old registry. I went back today and told all that I had gone through, and the amount of space left on my HD. The Manager gave me a copy of Windows 10 with a USB and Product Activation Key. I consider this to be a Blessing.
    4) I installed - reclaimed a large amount of the HD - now have 28 GB available. I loaded Windows 10 on the HP Stream PC-13.
    5) I have also upgraded My Wife and I's Satellite P75-A7100 to Windows 10. I am Good Now Thanks
    6) Arbitration with Manufacturers works sometimes - especially when it is an Honest effort to solve a problem
    7) Thank You for all your backing in this. The Forums are a great place.

That's great news Patrick. I'm happy to hear that the companies worked with you to get you back up and running again.

Hello Bischop, and welcome to Ten Forums.

It wouldn't matter. All Insider preview keys have been blocked from being able to activate with.

The only way to activate Windows 10 is to:

    1) Upgrade to free offer Windows 10 from an activated Windows 7 or 8.1

    2) Purchase a retail copy of Windows 10, and enter the included product key during installation.
