Thanks Shawn. Neither this nor a repair install helped. In case you want to have a look.

Those sure are some stubborn folders. It may be time to use a new account instead other than a reset or clean install.

    No CLSID

Hello! I realize this is an old post, but it seemed the most definitive.
I'm using Windows 10 Pro v 22H2 OS build 19045.3693 on another PC with no internet connection.
New install on an Ebay laptop PC, a Dell E6410 Latitude.
I was hoping to remove or at least hide 'This PC' when I launch Windows Explorer from a desktop shortcut.
But there is no CLSID under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\. However, I do have a HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLS\ entry.
I'd really like to be rid of 'This PC' as I plan on using Windows Explorer as I alway have.

    TIA!

Analogy: This PC can be considered a file cabinet, the drives/letters under This PC are the drawers in the cabinet and the folders in the drawers hold the files.

Hiding This PC in File Explorer would probably be disabling the purpose of the file manager.

If the panel holding This PC is an issue you might be able to hide the whole Navigation pane in View on the menu/tool bar.

Thank you for taking the time to try to help out a 73 yr old newbie! But I have a shortcut to Windows Explorer which I am familiar with and wish to continue. The title on the first page seemed like the answer to hiding/deleting/whatever the 'This PC' entry from blocking half the screen and having to make additional keystrokes to enlarge Windows Explorer. New releases are supposed to make things easier for the user, right?

But my additional question was about the lack of CLSID in Registry. I'm wondering if I can just add that entry to the Registry and then follow the instructions on page 1.

    Hello Richie, and welcome.

If you were wanting File Explorer to open to a different location than "This PC" by default, then you could change that using an option in the tutorial below.

Change Folder to Open File Explorer to by Default in Windows 10

The key path in the registry should be there. You may have missed it by mistake. Just to confirm, did you copy and paste the key path below into the address bar of Registry Editor and press Enter?

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}\ShellFolder

    Thank you!

My desktop shortcut instructs Windows to open Explorer.exe in C:\, where I am comfortable.

I do not have HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ in my Registry. I do have a HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLS\ entry. Are you saying I should add that entire key path into Registry??? Or add it bit by bit until I get the entire key path installed as per the page 1 instructions???

I wouldn't recommend to add the key since CLSID it should have been there by default. Windows would be broken without it. Be sure you scrolled down past all the listed file extensions.

If you were still wanting to remove "This PC" from File Explorer, please go ahead and post a screenshot of your Registry Editor showing this key path to see if anything may stand out.

I think I did. This is the specified path in page 1 (I think). Pic attached (maybe). I used Regedt Find/Find next and came up with dozens of CLSID entries; maybe hundreds. But not in the path in page 1.

Win 10 Paint would not let me take a SS; it insisted on editing Registry. So, here's a digi-cam shot...

OK, I see my mistake. Newbie error; I never noticed the dot in front of .CLSID. My bad.

Thanks for all the help! I'll go ahead and muck the Registry up and re-install Win 10 Pro and try again!
