How to Check or Uncheck Do For All Dialog Checkbox by Default in Windows 10

When you cut, copy, move, or delete multiple selected files and/or folders from one location to another in Windows, you may get a file operation conflict dialog (ex: "File Access Denied") prompting you what to do if say for example you needed to provide administrator permission to move the files and/or folders. You will also have a Do this for all current items checkbox to make it easier to apply what you want to do to all items.

The "Do this for all current items" checkbox will always be checked or unchecked as it was when last used by default.

This tutorial will show you how to have the Do this for all current items confirmation dialog checkbox to be checked or unchecked by default for your user account in Windows 10.

EXAMPLE: "Do this for all current items" checkbox in "File Access Denied" and "Destination Folder Access Denied" dialogs

    Here's How:

The downloadable .reg files below will modify the DWORD value in the registry key below.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\OperationStatusManager

    ConfirmationCheckBoxDoForAll DWORD

    0 = Uncheck
    1 = Check

1 Do step 2 (uncheck) or step 3 (check) below for what you would like to do.

     2. To Uncheck "Do this for all current items" by default

    This is the default setting.

    A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

    Do_this_for_all_current_items_unchecked_by_default.reg

    Download

     3. To Check "Do this for all current items" by default

    A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

    Do_this_for_all_current_items_checked_by_default.reg

    Download

4 Save the .reg file to your desktop.

5 Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

6 When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

7 Either restart explorer process, sign out and sign in, or restart the computer to apply.

8 You can now delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.

    That's it,
    Shawn Brink

    Hi Shawn.

The default setting is with the checkbox not ticked (i.e. ConfirmationCheckBoxDoForAll value is 0), but your reg files have the reversed effect.

    Hi Brink,

    This is my current setting

Check or Uncheck Do For All Dialog Checkbox by Default in Windows 10-fill-checkbox-default-3.png

But this is what I currently see (C:\Program Files)

Check or Uncheck Do For All Dialog Checkbox by Default in Windows 10-fill-checkbox-default-1.png

Check or Uncheck Do For All Dialog Checkbox by Default in Windows 10-fill-checkbox-default-2.png

Is the reg change just about moving files, or all check boxes?

    Hello @kitpzyxmsir,

It should get applied for cut, copy, move, or delete. Not sure about replace.

As a test, restart the computer to see if it may be required now to fully apply.

I "think" that did it. I restarted and tested. The box first came up unchecked, but after checking it and testing again, the box was checked.

    thanks

When you update Explorer's registry values, you can restart Explorer instead of rebooting.

    Open a CMD window.
    taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
    explorer

is it possible to create a shortcut for that, or maybe a .bat file?

A batch file works, and you can create a shortcut or run it from a desktop context menu. Brink's got the 2nd option covered in one of his many tutorials.
