Note: For option 1 step 5 Slideshow to work the service Windows Search must be running so that Indexing can occur. If this service has been disabled or stopped there will be no Slideshow. Shawn you may want to update your note for option 1 step 5.
Thank you. I tested this, and can confirm. I added the note to help warn others. :)

Lock screen background - change in Windws 10

    :)
Hi, I did not knowingly lock any screens.....but despite changing some colours back, I still cannot see my sign in screen, (that looks like your example) , the difference being I do not have a full screen pic, just a little round 'frame' with a fave pic in it, then the sign in spaces underneath.
I had thought that maybe I had inadvertently created a black screen with black text, highly possible as apart from drop-down menus and text boxes, I really am changing things I know nothing about!.
Then I read that you wrote that we cannot see the sign on screen if we have locked the screen. As I have always steered well away from locking anything, I was thinking maybe you can think of how to fix it.
I'd rather not have a PIN log in anyway, I am the only user, and the constant logging in every time I leave my desk is driving me nuts.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks...
    Sylvia

    Hello Sylvia, :)

If you like, you could set Windows to automatically sign in to your account at startup using OPTION ONE below.

Hi all - thank you for these detailed descriptions.
I do have a question - I'm using Asus laptop with Window10 installed - after locking the computer and putting the lid down, and after that opening the lid, I see lock screen text but no image-all is black except text that usually appears over the image-I see icons where I can click and get more info about the place shown, I can see date and time but no image. Can you please help with this issue?

I noticed that this appears only when laptop is woken up from standby by opening the lid. If it goes in standby with lid open and I wake it up via keyboard or mouse then the lock screen functions ok-image is shown, text too.

How come there is no image after waking up with opening of the lid?
    Please help-thank you

Hello BlueBluey, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

See if this below may be the issue.

If you turn on Show lock screen background picture on the sign-in screen, then you will need to make sure that you have Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing checked in your visual effects settings to prevent the lock screen background not displaying properly.

Thanks Brink but I've already checked this and I have it checked.
Can it be somehow connected to some windows service that does not wake up quick enough to display the image, or something in that direction? Dunno if these images are constantly fetched from the web so all must function upon waking the laptop - must have internet connection - perhaps that may cause it not to display image?

Perhaps this can be helpful - laptop came with Windows 8 preinstalled and I used upgrade to Windows 10 option that was offered via Windows update. So this is actually win10 upgraded from win8 so maybe something in the upgrade process did not get exactly right regarding the lock screen? Not that I've noticed any error messages during upgrade and I did it right away after switching the laptop on for the first time. But perhaps therein might lie the cause of this behavior.

It happened again but this time lid was not down - from the lock state, first thing I saw was black screen upon waking the display and then when I clicked mouse for the input field to appear, the image was displayed. So I'm talking about the screen with no input field where time is shown.

As a test, change your lock screen background picture to something else to see if it may toggle it to show properly.

If not, then test with Show lock screen background picture on the sign-in screen turned off.

Thanks for that, I might just try that! I have no idea what I did, but I did fix Firefox, I moved the mouse pointer over to the top right (side) near the FF options triple bar, and 'open menu' appeared. I left clicked, & got the menu bar back, from there I got the bookmarks sidebar back...thank goodness, without those, it was like typing with one finger....When I closed down the computer after that, & went back in, the sign in screen was back, and most everything was ok once again. Except the font size of ribbons in Word, Outlook, etc....now I can't find how to change them back to a larger font size...
Otherwise, it was like a huge weight was lifted & I was happy & laughing again & giving thanks!
I am so grateful to people like you, on these forums, I might not get it the 1st time, but sometimes someone says something & the light bulb goes off!!
Thanks for making me happy again...
    Sylvia :)
