For me, jt was option 1 that helped:
    Allow_Changing_Desktop_Background.reg

Don't know why it was disabled by default. The same thing happened when I would choose a pics folder- either in the normal Win 10 Personalization menu, or via the

    Code:
    control /name Microsoft.Personalization /page pageWallpaper
command - from post #46 in this thread.

Before I used your Option 1 .reg adjustment- As soon as I would leave the Change Desktop setting, or do a Save Settings after getting to the old menu (via above post #46).... then go back to Desktop Background setting, the setting would just be reverted back to Solid color. It was strange.

This took me a lllooonnngg time to try, because I was sure that the setting to customize Desktop Background in Win10 on a Surface 3 would not be disabled by default. Guess you never know.

Anyways, Thank You for your tutorial.

    Hello dperecky, :)

It is odd for it to be disabled by default, but I'm glad you got it sorted now.

    Background Slideshow Options

Can one only select a single folder of pictures for the background slideshow?
For us highly organised folks who have folders of folders of folders ... of folders of pictures, I can find no option to use all of one's pictures for the slideshow.
Would I be correct in assuming this is not possible?

    Hello Peter, :)

If you like, you could select to use your Pictures library for this, and include all your folders in the Pictures library. This way all the included folders in the library will be used as well.

Which, of course, means it's either all or nothing. I thought you could create a separate library just with the folders you wanted, but in the end I had to create a FOLDER called "Wallpapers 'Library'" and copy every single new image over manually. A pain in the butt, but it works.

You should have been able to create a new library, and only include the folders that contain the images you wanted to use.

    Desktop Slideshow

Hello and thanks for a speedy reply,

I created a library and put in a few of my picture folders to try it out.
When I tried to select this library for a desktop slideshow, Windows says, "You've selected a library. Please choose a folder instead."
    I'm stuck again!

@PeterAstle try the above in the Run dialog(right click Windows icon, choose Run)
