The Microsoft Edge web browser is based on Chromium and was released on January 15, 2020. It is compatible with all supported versions of Windows, and macOS. With speed, performance, best in class compatibility for websites and extensions, and built-in privacy and security features.

There's now a new desktop search bar included with the Microsoft Edge 111 version and above in Windows 10. You can use the search bar to search the web and launch you favorite sies directly from the desktop. The search box provides search (powered by Bing) and URL suggestions.

The desktop search bar automatically opens at startup by default in Windows 10.

This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable automatically opening the Microsoft Edge desktop search bar at startup for your account or all users in Windows 10.

This does not prevent the ability to manually open the desktop search bar from Microsoft Edge.

Automatically opening the Microsoft Edge desktop search bar at startup requires the Microsoft Edge startup app to be enabled.

    Thanks for this Shawn

It showed up on the laptop at work today when I I was using VIAD@T to book and place into stock, and I have a couple of windows open, and that damn search bar would pop something up when my cursor would travel across it.

What idiot at Microsoft thought it a good idea to have this turned on after an update.
I was too busy booking to take the time to figure out how to get rid of this junk.

Thanks Brink. It's truly annoying how much garbage Microsoft forces on users and how much bloated Edge is nowadays.

Having trouble trying to do this > disabling the search bar.

Option 1 - Launch search bar is greyed out.
Option 2/step 3 - disable file downloaded and installed, search bar still present
    The register file shows "WebWidgetIsEnabledOnStartup"=dword:00000000. [ REG_DWORD 0x0000000 (0) ]

Odd. That should have removed the Desktop Bing Search Bar. Did you restart the computer to see if that may apply it?
