How to Reset Quick Access Toolbar to Default in Windows 10 File Explorer

    information   Information
The Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) is a small, customizable toolbar that exposes a set of Commands that are specified by the application or selected by the user.

Sometimes you may wish to quickly reset QAT in File Explorer back to default. Resetting QAT will remove any command items you added to only have the default items again, and restore QAT to show above the Ribbon.

This tutorial will show you how to reset the Quick Access Toolbar in File Explorer to default for your account in Windows 10.

    Note   Note
The Quick Access Toolbar settings are saved to the QatItems binary value in the registry key below. The downloadable .reg file below deletes this QatItems binary value to reset QAT to default.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Ribbon

I think this may have affected my system with undesirable results. I'm having popup tooltip problems in AutoCAD where the tooltips close too quickly and some forums say that a registry edit could have caused it.

Do you know how to undo your downloaded registry edit here? Or is it not reversible or do I now understand the edit enough here?

Hello Eric, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

This would only reset the Quick Access Toolbar back to default, so it wouldn't affect anything else.

If you like, you could do a system restore using a restore point dated before you noticed the issue with AutoCAD to hopefully fix it.
