    Hello mate,

You could use the same QatItems binary value in the registry key like in the tutorial below to backup and restore.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Ribbon

Thanks. I looked at that, and while it accomplishes approximately what I want to do, it doesn't allow customization by editing source code.

I looked around some more and found this: [PowerShell] Powershell script to set Explorer Quick Access Toolbar Items - Pastebin.com
It's a PowerShell script that allows individual buttons to be selected by editing the code.

I'm going to modify it to allow the registry key to be specified as a parameter, so it can be called from my .bat file that sets user-specific options for all users. I may also add the ability to pass the desired options in as parameters.

I'll post the final version here soon.

Can I add a custom tool to the quick access toolbar?

Let's say I have installed "Irfanview" as default graphic viewer program.
But sometimes I would like to modify such a file with Photoshop.
How can I add my installed Photoshop to the quick access toolbar and use with one single left mouse click for the selected file?

(I know how to add Photoshop in this example to the right click context menu "Open with". I would like to have a one click solution for this situation).
