The tutorial has been updated to add OPTION ONE and OPTION TWO to be able to run a Windows Defender Offline scan using PowerShell and command prompt. :)

So, I've tried this out on a fully patched 1511 (10586) build of enterprise, and neither of the commandlines (powershell called and cmd called) and neither seem to do anything, the command runs without error, but the scan does not begin. I do have the folder in programdata. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

Hi @cubspsycho85 welcome to Ten Forums:)

I was having that problem on one of my PCs(laptop) and tried many a fix.
Read this thread for the background: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4...dows-10-a.html

The only thing that worked was a repair install.

Seems awfully drastic. I will look into this for sure, and let you know. Thanks!!!

It's not drastic. Actually after to repair install, just resync your system time with the internet and everything is as it was before, except for any problems with Windows in general, they get fixed!

I just ran it on both PCs(on 1.586.164). It took a couple of tries on both machine, but after reboots then clicking the shortcut it was able to reboot and scan. My desktop rebooted once the 1st time, got ready tzo scan, stopped, rebooted back into windows, then the next time it "grabbed". My laptop just didn't want to even reboot(too much background action?), anyhow, after I restarted it then clicked the icon it finally worked.

I just posed this for two reasons:
1.) So others trying it will know what might help if it doesn't work right off, even if it worked before.
2.) To bump the thread up(with something constructive) that maybe someone NOT specifically looking for this tutorial, might see it, and try it out:)

    My Defender is 4.10.14493.0.
It is part of the OS in Windows 10 1607. I cannot get it to scan offline. SFC is fine. I have tried all I know; could you help.

    Hello maranna, :)

What happens when you use one of the options to perform a WD offline scan?
