Who said "Bit Rot" is a thing of the past?
My W10 Home just self-destructed ("Inaccessible Boot Device" error).
Linux Mint was NOT affected (dual boot).
"Safe Mode" wouldn't load and "Startup Repair" could not fix the problem.
I was forced to obliterate W10 using the "Reset" option.
The only plus was that it was straightforward and it seems to have fixed the issue (for now).
What can I do to prevent a future "Inaccessible Boot Device" issue?
What is the difference between a "Clean" install and a "Reset" install?
One thing I've noticed is that "Reset" doesn't ask for a Product Key.
Speaking of Product Keys, what is the best way to recover my W10 Product Key in case I need to do a "Clean" install?
Does anyone know if Resetting will require re-joining a domain (if you are on a corporate network)? Our company has a goofy domain join process that can take weeks to get approval for, and to get someone with the right permissions to do it.
Hello Erik, :)
I'm afraid so since resetting Windows is basically the same as doing a clean install that only affects the Windows drive/partition.
Depending on what you're wanting to do, you might consider a repair install instead to hopefully not have to.

This is Tully have not been on for awhile!
Just purchased a Surface*Pro 4.
Now I want to restore it back to factory settings so I can give it to my son who Lives in US Virgin Islands!
I would like to have it so when he boots up it will be in the same state*except it will be running win10!
It came with Win 8.1, I updates it to Win10 & removed the file Windows old.
If*I reset it will it go back to Windows 10?
When it is restarted, will it be like it came from the factory except it will have Win10!
Will be 88 on February 14 &*and will still be the oldest member on this Forum!
I am on the Insider slow ring & looking to build a new computer that*will run the new*3D program!
When I tried to run the 3D program*it passed on everything but the video card must have DirectX 12!
I would like to build it with an i7 processor, but it is difficult to find an Asus Mother Board & Video card with DirectX 12 combo!
Any suggestions?
How is everthing going?
It is getting very hard to keep up with all the advances with VR & AR etc.!
I go back before Apple One!

Hello Tully, :)
It's good to hear from you. I hope you are doing well.
Resetting Windows 10 will basically have it back to default like after doing a clean install. It will still be running Windows 10.
You might check out the newer Z270 motherboards just released or soon to be released to see if they can meet your needs with an I7 CPU.
The link below lists some NIVIDIA graphic cards that support DirectX 12.
