If you like, you could do a direct clean install of Windows 10 instead. You should be able to just enter your Windows 7 key during Windows 10 Setup to activate with, but I would recommend to create and back up a GenuineTicket.xml file first to use to activate with just in case it won't activate with your Windows 7 key.

Be sure to find your Windows 7 product key first. You will need it. If it was for the Windows 7 that came preinstalled on the PC, then you should have a COA sticker on the computer with the key on it.

Ok. So I created the USB thing (my 16gb usb only had 3gb being shown so i had to deal with that **pats self on back**). I also located my key on the back of my computer (how'd you know it was there? You snooping around in my house?) Then as I go through the steps to actually to my clean install I hit a bit of a confusing part. AS seen below in the picture...which drive do I select? For the record, there isn't a single thing (file) on this computer I need, nor do i care about anything HP. I do however like clean and simple set ups. Advice?
Success! The menu's were different but thats to be expected I guess with different models? Either way it worked! It's my assumption that with this clean install I could, if desired, use the "reset-this-pc" function as I originally tried. Also, that I couldn't use this USB for another computer as it might be slightly different (outside of major differences that are obvious 64/32).

Yeah, the screens may vary a bit from system to system, but these are the usual ones.
Yep, you should be able to reset Windows now as needed without needing the USB.
You can use the USB on another computer as long as it's for the same supported 32/64-bit type.
Hey guys,
I've attempted a full reset of my laptop (Remove files and clean the drive). It has a 300GB hard drive.
Its now been stuck on the 'Resetting this PC' at 19% for the past 48 hours.
The hard drive light on the laptop is still blinking, so it looks like it is still doing something but i'm not sure if it is just stuck in a loop now.
Should i just hard reset it and repair or wait it out? (if so how long)
Also if i do the former, i still need to clean the drive as i'm selling the laptop..

48 hours is a long time to have waited without much or any progress.
If you like, you could boot from your Windows 10 installation USB, and just do a clean install instead.
