How to Add Windows Update to Control Panel in Windows 10

Windows Update keeps Windows 10 updated by downloading and installing the latest updates, drivers, and hotfixes released by Microsoft.

In Windows 10, Windows Update was made deprecated in the Control Panel and now only accessible from within Settings.

This tutorial will show you how to add or remove Windows Update again from the Control Panel for all users in Windows 10.

You must be signed in as an administrator to be able to add or remove Windows Update from the Control Panel.

3 To Remove Windows Update from Control Panel

    This is the default setting.

    A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

    Remove_Windows_Update_from_Control_Panel.reg

    Download

4 Save the .reg file to your desktop.

5 Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

6 When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

7 You can now delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.

    That's it,
    Shawn

Thanks, so much better this way.

Microsoft needs to learn that change for changes sake isn't always the right way forward!

If you like for that, you could use this tutorial to add Windows Update back to the Control Panel, then create a Windows Update shortcut using the location below. Afterwards, move the shortcut to where you like, and "Pin to Start" the shortcut. :)

    %windir%\explorer.exe shell:::{36eef7db-88ad-4e81-ad49-0e313f0c35f8}

Very nice! With this I was able to install and keep from updating the forced AMD/ATI drivers that kills several apps. The strange thing is now it shows that I've "never" check for updates and "never" installed any but checking installed updates shows that I have done both.

Ah! After I just checked for updates the two "nevers" was replaced with dates, etc. We'll see what shows tomorrow, etc.
