Understood, cannot set these as an admin and the middle one gets me an icon and the ability to update and scan when started manually. Gonna try Safe Mode setting? GPO and registry ineffective. Windows Pro 10 Insider Build 1493.

    Thanks. Check in later..
If all else fails, you could do a repair install to fix Windows without losing anything.

When you install some 3rd party antivirus (AV) programs, they may automatically turn off Windows Defender
I updated from Malwarebytes 2 to 3, but it didn't turn of Defender. I understand that Malwarebytes 3 can now replace your antivirus, but apparently Windows Defender doesn't see it so??

FYI as of a week after this post they changed the up, removing the <Windows 10 Defender security center and replacing it with an intuitively in-obvious Windows 10 App-Store type interface.

Hello Tim, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

Yeah, Windows 10 is using a more centralized Windows Defender Security Center now, but the old Windows Defender Antivirus UI is still available to open though.

Although you say it in words in step 1, it was not that obvious to me how to turn off defender temporarily since CU version as the required link is a bit obscure and I missed it at first.

An additional screen dump would helpful.
