WD definition updates can be updated from within Windows Defender instead.

You should be able to click on "Download" in WU for the other updates to install them.

Yeah, definition updates within Windows Defender work without a problem and also clear the error from WU.

After reading Brink post #27 , I can confirm that we are able to update WD definitions through WU.

I'm still getting errors downloading WD definitions through Windows update. Are you sure about this? Have you changed anything?

Yes. That images was from my Desktop.

I always reset the permissions after every changes, whether it's for directories or registries, that's my habit. I don't know if this important to avoid errors.

I get the same screens and it's not actually until it tries to install the definition that I get the error. So you reset the permission on the DefaultMediaCost folder for the new owner?

I'm kinda confused, on a metered connection do you have to check for all of your updates manually? Is there not away to decide what we want downloaded automatically on a metered connection? I'm guessing that we don't have that option with this method as it's not really Microsoft supported...

It would be nice if we could get Windows defender to auto update as there's usually a new definition every half hour or so!

    Hey Brink,

I saw in another method that you can change the "ethernet" value from 1 to 2 to achieve the same effect. Did you know about that? Does the reg file you provide essentially do the same thing?

Simply reverse of what you've been doing when you change the ownership and permissions, then set the owner back to TrustedInstaller.

That's what is set in the tutorial.
