@Compumind Note: with WinSetView, no changes are made to your File Explorer settings, and none of your settings are saved, until Submit is clicked. You can mess around with the WinSetView interface all you like to see how it works and then just X out and restart the app to get back where you started.

    Hi. I understand.

However, let's say that you made a mistake - how do you undo your changes once you click submit (while the program is still open)?

    Thanks.

When you click Submit, the hta closes itself and launches a PowerShell script to apply the changes. When the PowerShell script completes, File Explorer is restarted, causing all the new default views to be applied. To correct a mistake, you would relaunch WinSetView and either pick the settings you really want (and then click Submit again) or click the Restore button to select a time-stamped backup reg file to rollback to a previous state.

    Got it. Thanks!

@LesFerch - Thank you so much for this tool. The latest Win10 updates will revert changes constantly and it was maddening.

Just one suggestion -- The current version (both the .ps1 and the .hta) check for the OS-version and reject anything that doesn't fit the "Windows XX" (7,8,10,11) format. Unfortunately, this disables your app on Windows Server (despite it being compatible). For example, the WinVer for the current Win-10/11 compatible Server version, is "Windows Server 2022".

In my case, for a quick/simply solutin -- I added a single extra line where "Se" is converted to "10" (just as "11" is converted to "10" now). Obviously the better solution will be using the entire string for "Server 2022" or "Server 2019" and setting either to "10".

Thanks again for the excellent solution to this very annoying issue!

Thank you! I hadn't thought of testing it on Windows Server. I'll see if I can set them up in a VM and make the appropriate updates.

@MediaManny I've updated the HTA and PS1 files of WinSetView so that the Windows version check now also works on Windows Server. The new logic uses a combination of the CurrentVersion (NT version) and CurrentMajorVersionNumber (if it exists) instead of looking at ProductName. This works regardless of whether it's the server or workstation OS.

Please try it on your server and let me know how it goes. Thanks!

I have no idea how it took me so long to find this tool. Amazing.

working from default view is so much easier, although grouping selection could benefit more if it look like the list in the grouping options.

If I understand correctly, the idea would be that Group by would be a dynamic drop down menu that is populated with the currently selected column headings. I thought of that, but Windows actually supports grouping by (and sorting by) any property, regardless of whether it's a current Details view column heading or not. Hence the group by and sort by options are part of the property list.

If you mean something else, let me know.

Hello there, download and tried to run the VB script, but Bitdefender complains:

VBScript tried to load a malicious resource detected as Amsi.Edge.8.49F2493A and was blocked. Your device is safe.

Have used on corporate machine with Trend AV and passed :)

    What to do?
