    How to Enable or Disable the Windows Key in Windows 10


    The Windows key is the key on a keyboard with the Windows logo on it. The Windows key can be used for keyboard shortcuts to open Windows features with.

    This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable the Windows key for all users in Windows 10.

    You must be signed in as an administrator to enable or disable the Windows key.

    Note   Note
    The downloadable .reg files below will add and modify the binary value in the registry key below.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout

    (Windows key)
    Scancode Map binary value

    00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,03,00,00,00,00,00,5b,e0,00,00,5c,e0,00,00,00,00 = disable
    (delete) = enable


    (Caps Lock and Windows keys)
    Scancode Map binary value

    00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,04,00,00,00,00,00,5B,E0,00,00,5C,E0,00,00,3A,00,00,00,00,00 = disable
    (delete) = enable





    Here's How:

    1. Do step 2 (enable), step 3 (disable Win key), or step 4 (disable Caps Lock and Win key) below for what you would like to do.


     2. To Enable Caps Lock and Windows keys

    This is the default setting.

    A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 5 below.

     3. To Disable Only Windows key

    A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 5 below.

    Disable_Windows_key.reg

    Download


     4. To Disable Caps Lock and Windows keys

    If you like: How to Enable or Disable only the Caps Lock Key in Windows 10

    Users will still be able to press and hold the Shift key and press a letter to capitalize if Caps Lock is disabled.

    A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 5 below.

    Disable_Caps_Lock_and_Windows_keys.reg

    Download


    5. Save the .reg file to your desktop.

    6. Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

    7. If prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

    8. Sign out and sign in, or restart the computer to apply.

    9. If you like, you can delete the downloaded .reg file.

    I almost thought this tutorial was how to disable the Activation Key in Windows :) Though now I read the tutorial, I think this would be a great prank.
