From what I can tell, Sysprep is still supported by Microsoft but CopyProfile is not. It has been replaced with ICD. This tutorial is deprecated and probably shouldn't be followed, anymore.

Has anyone ran across the issue of when loading the install.wim in Windows system image manager, it is asking you to select the following..

    windows 10 pro technical preview
    windows 10 technical preview.

I have tried 3 different ISO's from windows - and it appears they all are the same.

This is the November update. The october update gave you the windows 10 pro or home option.
Not sure why this is showing technical preview?

For other readers of this thread:

The member I quote above has his personal agenda, I am asking you to ignore the false information given by him. He did not like me telling him he was doing stuff wrong, didn't like to be corrected, and that influences his attitude towards this tutorial and me.

To show what I mean, the below quotes are from earlier in this thread:

Our conversation yesterday, 6 posts each, that's "constant personal attacks"?

OK, so he's not going to see this because I'm on his ignore list, but you other geeks reading this thread, please go back a few posts and see if "constant personal attacks" is a correct way to describe what happened. Read 12 posts starting from post #155, to post #166. Post #155 here: Windows 10 Image - Customize in Audit Mode with Sysprep - Page 16 - Windows 10 Forums

Those twelve posts put very short:

A user asked my opinion about a procedure, a way to do the customizations for the Windows image. I told I have never tested it like that because it's wrong and pointless and explained the correct procedure, giving clear examples and even posting a video to show the correct way to do this.

I told the user in question that he had failed because it is so apparent from his posts that he did it wrong and does not know the correct way how to do it, and this apparently was enough for this user: he did not like me telling he is wrong and explaining the correct procedure.

Nothing more to say about this, read those twelve posts by yourself and see what you think was said, it only takes a few minutes of your time. Anyway, at least I tried. I told the correct procedure, gave example screenshots from the Windows SIM, example extract of the correct answer file, explained how it should be done and posted a video about how it should be done. All that in those 12 posts, six of them mine six his, within a few hours yesterday, the time period from hereon known as "time of constant personal attacks".

It is kind of sad that people who do not know get upset when it's revealed, rather than say honestly "Ah OK, I did not know that!".
That being said, the facts are:
    • CopyProfile is nor deprecated
    • ICD has not replaced SIM and answer file, it's just a new alternative way to do this
    • CopyProfile works perfectly apart from a small glitch (end users seeing built-in admin desktop and recent files in Quick Access. This can be easily fixed)

I have just now finished one more test with sysprep and CopyProfile, capturing it all in a video. Works nicely. The video is encoding as we speak, thereafter I need to edit it a bit. I will post the video in this thread later today.

Reading a few last pages in this thread I feel that I need to clarify something:

TenForums.com is not an annex of your enterprise IT department. The Ten Forums tutorials, including this one, are not meant to to be used as guides in enterprise Windows deployment. Instead they are made for private users to help them to get most out of their Windows 10 operating system.

I have written quite a many tutorials about sysprep and ways to use it, both here and on our sister sites the EightForums.com and the SevenForums.com. Not a single one of these tutorials is meant to be used as an enterprise deployment guide; instead they are all for private users, to show how private users can use enterprise / professional methods in customizing Windows 10 for their needs.

That being said, I understand that in enterprise environment the need to manually remove the built-in admin desktop and recent files from the end user File Explorer's Quick Access might make the whole CopyProfile component useless. However, for a private user, the audience this tutorial is written to, a few mouse clicks after the customization is done is not something that would make the whole process useless.

For those of you complaining about the need to make new Windows images after each build upgrade in enterprise environment: that's the reason Windows 10 is also available as Enterprise LTSB edition. Use the LTSB (Long Time Servicing Branch) edition to customize your image for deployment. It will not need build upgrades, you don't have to create a new image for deployment every month or two.

Download the Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB trial here: Windows 10 Enterprise | TechNet Evaluation Center

    Select the LTSB edition:

    Kari,

When I load that into windows system image manager, it is stating that "the windows image Windows 10 Pro does not exist in file c:\os_image\install.wim.

The install.wim was extracted from the win10 nov update .iso.

The install.wim is in the Sources folder, you need to copy it first for instance to desktop, then open it in SIM to create the catalog:

That's exactly what I did. Worked fine with October build. I think there is a issue with the November build.
