From what I've read ESDs are smaller and more compressed than ISOs and hence better download on bandwidth.

But, do the ISOs created from them always maintain SHA hashes the same as the ISOs if downloaded from MS?
No, the SHA is not the same.

The only problem I have with the process is in grabbing the install.esd file before it gets deleted at the end.

@Berton, and other members with issues in finding / saving the install.esd file:

When Windows Update has found a build upgrade, you will see one of following three prompts in Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update:

     1. Restart now
ESD to ISO - Create Bootable ISO from Windows 10 ESD File-image.png

    What it means?
    • Upgrade files have been downloaded and uncompressed to C:\$WINDOWS.~BT folder, upgrade has been prepared and is pending restart

    What should I do?

    • Copy the install.esd file from C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources folder to a safe location
    • Use the tool from this tutorial to create an ISO image (install media), when done click Restart now to start the upgrade process

     2. Install now
ESD to ISO - Create Bootable ISO from Windows 10 ESD File-image.png

    What it means?

    • Upgrade files have been downloaded but not yet uncompressed to C:\$WINDOWS.~BT folder.

    What should I do?

    • Click Install now and let Windows unpack / uncompress upgrade files
    • When done Windows will show the Restart now prompt, proceed as told above in 1. Restart now

     3. Fix issues
ESD to ISO - Create Bootable ISO from Windows 10 ESD File-image.png

    What it means?

    • There is not enough space on C: drive to download and / or install upgrade
    • Windows needs about 5 GB free on drive C: to download the upgrade files, another 5 GB to do the upgrade
    • If there is more than 5 GB but less than 10 GB available space on C: drive, upgrade files have been downloaded but not uncompressed yet, files need to be unpacked / uncompressed to another drive
    • If there is less than 5 GB space available on C: drive upgrade files have not been downloaded, they need to be downloaded and unpacked to another drive
    • Upgrade will most probably completely fail if free space on drive C: is less than 2 GB regardless of how much free space is available on other drives
    • Upgrade will fail if drive C: has less than 10 GB of free space and there are no other drives available

    What should I do?

    • Click Fix issues
    • Windows Update will show you how much more space is needed
    • Select another drive to store the upgrade files:
ESD to ISO - Create Bootable ISO from Windows 10 ESD File-image.png
    • Click Refresh:
ESD to ISO - Create Bootable ISO from Windows 10 ESD File-image.png
    • Windows Update will now continue with upgrade
    • Proceed as told above in 1. Restart now or 2. Install now
    • Notice that in this case, C: drive not having enough space you will find the install.esd file in X:\$WINDOWS.~TMP folder instead of C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources folder (replace X: with your actual drive letter)
    • Also notice that whereas C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources folder now with latest build upgrades keeps the install.esd file even after the upgrade, X:\$WINDOWS.~TMP does not keep it. If you click Restart now before copying it to a safe location, it will be gone after the upgrade and you can no longer make an ISO image

I will rewrite the tutorial and make new video within next few days, refer to this post until that :)

@Kari ... not to sound negative, but are the ISO's being tested to see if they boot? Or used with DISM to see if they work? Or just created without error? Again, not trying to sound negative, but there is a difference. TC
