ESD to ISO - Create Bootable ISO from Windows 10 ESD File

The above quoted sentence caught my eye. Where / how did you get the ESD file? Windows Upgrade tool, Windows Update, something else?

Just FYI. I have captured 3 ESD files today, two from the Windows Updater exe program and one from Windows Update directly. All three have been made into a WIM file (Option #1) without issue.

That's why I asked it. The tool and method in this tutorial only work with ESD file downloaded by Windows Update.

Thanks for confirmation. The 30 day rule made it impossible for me to get AU through Windows Update, I have not a single machine physical or virtual with over 30 day old installation. I simply download the ISO files I need from MS.

That's why I have been unable to test this.

Okay, thanks all. I used the MCT which made the \ESD file that I found the install.esd in. I've since downloaded the ISO directly and upgraded everything I need to.

OK, with help from fellow geeks @essenbe and @Dude I finally got my hands on AU ESD files from Windows Update and was able to run tests.

The tool works perfectly, without an issue as intended, to make an ISO image from Windows 10 Anniversary Update ESD file downloaded through Windows Update.

So it's just the install.esd from the C:\ESD folder created by MCT that does not work then, right?

No, it's all and every ESD file except the one created by Windows Update in C:\$WINDOWS.~BT folder.

That's the only ESD file this tool works with, that's the intention of this tutorial: to help you to make an ISO from a build upgrade got through Windows Update.
