Are you sure the ESD you have belongs to the latest build?

What I mean with the question is that let's say you have build 9926 installed, with its ESD file on your system drive, and the upgrade to 10041 fails, you still have an ESD file there but it is not the 10041 ESD, from the failed upgrade, but instead it is the ESD file from the last successful upgrade or install, the 9926.
I think @wptski has a point here. Recently I had a failure in Updating to latest build. The download of the Update did well, but the installation did not succeed. I'm following your excellent guide to create an ISO with the ESD file and I have located the file in $Windows-BT\Sources\ directory. I have another install.esd file in C:\RecoveryImage. So, I suppose the first is the failed update(10049).
Also, if I try again to update (from the Windows Update and Recovery) it does not download something, but instead it starts the installation immediately.

Edit: Of course the last word has the Installation. I mean, If I install this ISO (ESD created) and I see 10041 (and not 10049), then surely you're right :)

OK, now I am starting to find some logics here.

My 10041 was a clean install, no RecoveryImage folder present. Because one ISO was enough for me, I did not let the upgrade to download the ESD on other machines.

I will test this, for that I need to install the 9926 first and put it to Slow ring so it upgrades to 10041 but not to 10049. This should create the RecoveryImage folder, then upgrading that to 10049 I should also have both ESD files.

I am an old school geek, for me it's like Christmas come early to find a new logical reason to do more test installs :).

And I didn't know that this script (ESD Decrypt) creates the name automatically, based on the install.esd file. I just saw it. So, it seems is the correct install.esd file and the .iso is with the failed update included(10049 in my case).

Mount the ISO, look at properties, detail of setup.exe. Will show build number.

Yes, you are right. I guess it's double confirmed now.

Copied the Install.esd to the folder and used the command as admin, I have previously created the iso for 10041 following this tutorial.

Please do not get angry now, I just don't have the opportunity to use this too often. Nothing personal:

    RTFM!

:). OK, back to business. You are currently in the folder C:\Windows\System32. Your ESDtoISO.cmd file (the script command itself) is not in that folder, Windows PATH environment variable can't find it and even if it could the ESDtoISO command could never find your install.esd file without knowing its path.

    A user caused error.

Solution: open the elevated Command Prompt as told in tutorial Step 2.1.

I find right-click the script file run as admin the easiest - it will find the esd automatically (if it's the only esd file in that directory)
