:) You are welcome Jimbo.
Thanks for that and for this tut Kari. I asked because I've been sharing my ISO files to some friends who are having issues with online update. I suddenly realized that I may be unknowingly sharing some of my personal info with the ISO. Good to know there's nothing to worry about.
Cheers!
Okay, build 10041 ISO created, boot, choose Update and message states to reboot normally and update. Gathering from scattered posts that there is a hook from Update Settings but I'm not finding anything yet.
Mentioned in another thread there is an Update.exe included but I don't see that on the DVD. Might be suffering from acute brain fart too!
You totally lost me. What are you trying to update?
Or are you talking about Upgrade instead of Update? If so, see the screenshot:Only clean install is possible when the PC is booted with Windows install media. If you want to do an in-place upgrade keeping your installed software and files, you have to boot first to desktop of the old Windows and when there, run the installer from the install media of the new Windows.
Thanks Kari - the issue here was timing. When the error message (no VHD update) was displayed, it locked my screen. I had to press Ok to continue - that however started deleting the $BT folder. The only ESD files I found were in
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download
These seemed to be named correctly, 10041.0.150313-1821.fbl_impressive_CLIENTPRO_RET_x64fre_en-us.esd
but the two I tried would not decrypt, so I was trying to use the wrong ESD file. I just couldn't find the install.esd and thought that MS might have changed things.
Solution: I used a 2nd desktop to copy the $BT .... \sources folder before the update process had a chance to delete the install.esd
Once I had the correct .esd everything went as your tutorial explains.
I notice that you also posted download links for the ESDs in post# 135 - excellent!

.
Kari,
You and I make a great team!
I created an ISO using the ESD from a Win10,10041,64 bit machine.............
I then created an ISO from your posted ESD files for a 32 bit version of 10041, using the Decrypter.
The 32 bit version of Win10,10041 is presently downloading (updating). When that update completes I will create another ISO from it's ESD, just for kicks, and I love the little ditty that Imagburn plays when it completes a successful burn.:)
Some feedback...............
Us old guys would appreciate your efforts in some sort of compaction scheme for all the downloadable files you have posted. Maybe a single page for all downloads with a short blurb about when you'll need each file.
I wasted hours this morning before I found your decrypter utility. I missed it in the mix somehow but once I found it the party didn't last long.
Again, many thanks to you and your team for a job well done!
And I would like you to know that DOS hasn't changed in 25 years. I don't think there's much difference between a dot and a comma but DOS disagrees! If you have time DOS could use a little updating!
The tutorial has now been revamped, tool script updated, and a complete list with download links for all available 20 language versions of the Build 10041 ESD file, 32 & 64 Bit, Pro & Enterprise added.
For you with capped bandwidth or slow connection, why not download over 15% smaller ESD (compared to ISO) and make your own ISO?
