    You're welcome:)
I have already done it a few times, as it's actually(for me) other than re-imaging from a system image, the second quickest and safest way to repair the system when I trash it.

one more quick question... it would appear that i can just do the upgrade from within the media creation tool by selecting upgrade this PC without burning to and installing from a disc... correct?

Media Creation Tool prepares an ISO that is correct for your bit architecture and version(Home or Pro) , that you can download to your PC to save for future use, or, to an USB drive(or both like me). Then you just mount the ISO in file explorer, let it look for updates, and go on from there.

Yes, that would be correct. You are not required to save an ISO with MCT, it is just one of the options.

Hello Shawn I have bought a laptop of one of the grand kids and it came with 8 - I thought it was with 10.

So I have hit the upgrade button but it is because of our broadband speed taking forever. I do have two 10 ISO's on sticks but am not sure how using them will speed up the process even after reading the tutorial. There are no files or personal data on this machine except the account stuff used to set it up - in essence straight out of the box.

What would you advise me to do because I have already entered all that personal details and I don't really want to go through that again because it drove her Mum mad the first time I fired it up..

Just as a by the by the wretched machine keeps telling me what I am typing and rambling on about some security stuff that I cannot follow . Have tried turning off the narrator but it doesn't do a thing and the voice is driving me nuts!! Any ideas please?

Using the USB flash drive with Windows 10 on it would save you exactly the amount of time it would take to download the same about 3.5 GB files again. Why download that much again when you already have it saved?

    John,

Not sure about the voice issue, but please go ahead and create a new thread for that issue to see if we can figure out what's up with it. :)

    Hi Shawn,
As other member's in here have already mentioned..the information contained in this tutorial is EXCELLENT !! I'm typing this post that's running Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview Build #14376 . Of course I downloaded a new build this morning, but I'm not going to install it till I get home from work this afternoon. I'm currently 'upgrading' another laptop that was running windows 7 sp1 home premium 32-bit edition. Although that laptop meets ALL of the requirement's set forth for upgrading to windows 10, the installation process has been running all night. I just checked the progress and now the update process is @ 83 % and it's in the 'Configuring Settings' stage @ 33 % . So far no error's or 'hiccups', it might actually get installed correctly. That laptop isn't as new as this one, but I purchased a genuine copy of windows 7 sp1 home premium 32-bit and installed/activated it so I could upgrade to windows 10. Thanks again for everything you do in ALL of the different message board's !!
    David :)
Update: Overall install 84% - Configuring Settings 36%..hopefully it will complete and I'll have windows 10 home to use !!
