I just went back to the way I ran 10 before. on a separate hot swap disk.

    Alternative suggestion:

Gary, are any of your hard drives large enough to partition? One of my older laptops has a 320 GB hard drive; the other one has a 500 GB hard drive and this desktop has a 1 TB hard drive. On each one, I've installed Windows 8.1 as my primary. Once 8.1 was installed, I partitioned the hard drive to approximately half and half. Then, following this tutorial, https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2...ndows-8-a.html create a dual boot system.

It's much easier the second and third time you do it than the first. It's workable and you can boot into whichever OS you need to.

Hey Wynona, your link is to the same thread you posted the link in (this one). I end up going in circles :)

Oh, did I already do that? It's hard to keep up when I'm following several threads.

Thanks Wynona, yes all of my drives are 1TB , but I really do not want to dual boot. I really do not know yet for sure if I am going to use Windows 10. It is about 50-50 after this mess with Build 10049.

Your choice, of course. I would advise you to at least try it each time a new build comes out. My thinking is that it will get better and better as time goes by.

I'm not gonna tell you it's a Technical Preview. :) It's my belief that if folks don't know it's a TP by now, there's no use trying to tell 'em at this stage of the game. :)

Install not going according to guide

Looked through the thread, but haven't seen this issue. I'm attempting to install Win10Preview from USB, using /sources/Setup.exe, to a new partition (T: ) on my second SSD:

Dual Boot Windows 10 with Windows 7 or Windows 8-diskmgmt.png

After Setup checks for updates, I'm greeted with this screen (which, of course, I don't see in the tutorial):

Dual Boot Windows 10 with Windows 7 or Windows 8-options.png

Pretty sure I don't want the first option (which I think would overwrite my Win 8.1 installation), but unsure if the second will do what I want, either.

    Guidance appreciated!

Try step 8 and 9. From what you said so far this is what you want to do. Just be positive that you select the T drive. I always write down how much space is in the partition I want to install in. If not sure keep asking?

Almost: It's step 8. :) Dunno how I missed that the first time; must have scrolled past or got browser tabs confused. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, Charlie!
