OK. Please post the C:\Windows\System32\Sysprep\Panter\Setupact.log file here. Open it in Notepad, copy everything, insert it in the

tags in a post.

So, I ended reinstalling Windows using Recovery -> Reset this PC and following your "Clean Install" instructions with my existing relocate.xml. It worked, thought I'm not sure what was different this time.

    Thanks for your help!

    install.wim

    Hi Kari,

I've been trying to follow your tutorial " Relocating Users folder on an existing Windows installation" but I can't get a proper unattended answer file. The reason is I can't get my hand on install.wim file. Even if I create an ISO from Media Creation Tool I only have install.esd inside...

I've been searching for a way to convert this .esd in .wim but the tools advised on Internet doon't seem to work here...

Any clue how to get a nice install.wim file ?

    Thanks

Hi Brainstorm, welcome to the Ten Forums.

Download the Windows 10 ISO from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softw...load/techbench
It contains the normal install.wim file.

Remember that doing this on an existing Windows installation will break the Start and Search for all old user accounts. To avoid this you need to first enable the built-in admin account, then deactivate all existing user accounts, sysprep, and finally reactivate the existing user accounts.

This video shows how to do that:

    Hi again,

I followed the tutorial but my computer is stuck in an infinite loop at the state of creating the dummy account.
It starts, asks for language, then quick config and then it loads forever but flickering the restart and do it all over again ...

    What to do ?

    Thanks again

The reboot loop means that system has an error it cannot pass. Usually this is the wrong drive letter, system tries to relocate the Users folder to non-existing drive. Notice that it is quite normal for the system to do the restart after the Settings dialog for two or three times before it "jumps ahead" and finalizes the setup.

If the reboot loop will not break, setup doesn't continue, the only option is to restore a backup and start again. Sysprepping an existing system is more problematic than doing it on a clean install, therefore my recommendation is to use this method only when installing Windows.

I'll keep you informed if I sucess or not with the users relocation on fresh install.

    Thanks again

Do not relocate any other folders than the Users! Relocating other system folders is not recommended nor supported.

Windows update and Insider Build upgrades will be totally OK, no worries. If you allow me to suggest something, do a system image now. You can use for instance EaseUS ToDo Free for that, see this post: 48 Hours Giveaway of EaseUS Todo Backup Home - Page 3 - Windows 10 Forums
