    tatsu,

Do you have another hard drive to test with to rule out if the current hard drive may be dead?

I would recommend starting with a fresh USB flash drive. Some people have had problems with USB 3.0 flash drives so I would get a good brand name USB 2.0 flash drive, no larger than 32 GB in size. I like SanDisk. Use these instructions from Microsoft TechNet to prepare the flash drive:

1.Insert a USB flash drive into a running computer.
2.Open a Command Prompt window as an administrator.
    3.Type diskpart.
4.In the new command line window that opens, to determine the USB flash drive number or drive letter, at the command prompt, type list disk, and then click ENTER. The list disk command displays all the disks on the computer. Note the drive number or drive letter of the USB flash drive.
5.At the command prompt, type select disk <X>, where X is the drive number or drive letter of the USB flash drive, and then click ENTER.
6.Type clean, and the click ENTER. This command deletes all data from the USB flash drive.
7.To create a new primary partition on the USB flash drive, type create part pri, and then click ENTER.
8.To select the partition that you just created, type select part 1, and then click ENTER.
9.To format the partition, type format fs=fat32 quick, and then click ENTER.
10.Type active, and then click ENTER.
11.Type exit, and then click ENTER.

Next mount your Windows 10 ISO file. If you are in Windows 7, you will have to use a program like WinISO to mount it. Windows 8/8.1/10 just right click the ISO file and Mount. Copy all the files/folders from the mounted ISO file to the flash drive.

When you try to boot from the flash drive make sure it is plugged into a black USB 2.0 port and not a blue USB 3.0 port.

Doing it this way will ensure that the problem is not with the flash drive. If you can't boot that flash drive, then it is something in UEFI firmware not set correctly.

Didn't disable secure boot when clean installed

    Hello,

I forgot to disable the secure boot as stated in the tutorial here. Since the message to disable secure boot appears inside a Warning box in the tutorial, I wanted to know if I should re-install and disable it before installing again? Or everything is fine?

    Thanks

    Hello @mibaup, :)

The warning is only there to disable secure boot before doing a clean install because some motherboards do not support booting from a USB when secure boot is enabled.

Since you have successfully clean installed Windows 10, there's no need to do anything.

I was just poking around in the Windows installer, and found this file Shawn. I found it of interest so thought I'd post it here.
For the choices you need to make when setting up your user account the first time:

    oobe_help_opt_in_details:

    Intro Summary
When you set up Windows, you’ll be offered a set of Express settings which are recommended to connect your device to services that give you a more personalized experience, help make your device more reliable and secure, and help improve Microsoft services. You can change these settings later if you wish. The information below explains what data Microsoft will collect and how it will be used when you select Express settings. Please be sure to review the full Microsoft Privacy Statement (aka.ms/privacy) for more info on what personal data Microsoft collects and how it’s used when you use Windows. If you’d prefer to customize your settings, select Customize instead of Use Express settings.

    Personalization
    · Personalized speech, inking, and typing. These services allow Microsoft to collect and use data about your speech, inking (handwriting), and typing on your Windows devices. This data helps improve our ability to correctly recognize and personalize your input. You can turn this off at any time in Settings.
    · Send typing and inking data. Your typed and handwritten words are also collected to improve character recognition and to provide you with a personalized user dictionary and text completion suggestions. Some of this data is stored on your device and some is sent to Microsoft to help improve these services for all users. You can turn this off at any time in Settings.
    · Advertising ID. Windows generates a unique advertising ID for each user on a device which application developers and advertising networks can use to provide more relevant advertising. You can turn this off at any time in Settings. Turning it back on will reset the ID.
    Location and Find My Device
Microsoft’s location service provides both precise and general location information to Windows devices using a combination of global positioning service (GPS), nearby wireless access points and/or cell towers, or an IP address, depending on the device capabilities. You allow certain apps, services, and Windows features to access and use this data to deliver location-aware services. Location data is also used to help you find your device if you lose it (a service called Find My Device). This information is also sent to Microsoft to improve location services. Data about a Windows device’s recent location history is stored on the device. You can control location access and clear your device’s location history in Settings.

    Browser, Protection, and Update
    · Page Prediction. Windows browsers send your browsing history to Microsoft, and Microsoft uses that data to proactively load pages you are likely to browse next for a faster browsing experience. Microsoft also collects browsing history data, associated with your user id, related to your visits to a limited number of Microsoft-owned web sites. You can turn this off at any time in browser settings.
    · SmartScreen Filter sends data to Microsoft about the websites you visit and files you download in order to help warn you and protect you and your device from unsafe web content or malicious software. You can turn SmartScreen Filter off in Settings at any time.
    · Windows Update Delivery Optimization lets you get Windows updates and Windows Store apps from sources in addition to Microsoft. This can help you get updates and apps more quickly if you have a limited or unreliable Internet connection. And if you own more than one PC, it can reduce the amount of Internet bandwidth needed to keep all your PCs up-to-date. Delivery Optimization also sends updates and apps from your PC to other PCs on your local network or PCs on the Internet.
    Connectivity
When you are out and about, there may be paid hotspots available. Windows helps you find and connect to these networks.

    Diagnostic Reporting
Opting in to “Send full diagnostic and usage data to Microsoft” sets your Diagnostic and usage data setting to Full, which allows us to collect a more complete set of data to diagnose problems on your device. When we encounter a problem that is difficult to diagnose with our internal testing, data needed to diagnose and fix the problem (including the user content that may have triggered the issue, if appropriate) will be gathered from a small sample number of devices that have opted in to the Full level and exhibit the problem. If you don’t choose to “Send full diagnostic and usage data to Microsoft”, Diagnostic and usage data collection will be set to Basic on your device. You can adjust your Diagnostic and usage data collection level at any time in Settings.

Skype access to my address book
Skype can check your address book from time to time to find people you know and automatically add them as new Skype contacts. If you change your mind at any time, turn off Automatically add friends in settings. Your address book will no longer be used to find people you know and you’ll need to add people manually. To change how other people who use Skype can find you, go to Manage how people find me in settings.

    DNT
Microsoft browsers include a “Do Not Track” (DNT) setting that can send a signal to the websites you visit requesting that you not be tracked. DNT is off, but you can turn it on at any time in browser settings. A range of other controls are provided in browser settings to help you control data collection and use.

how do I check the box in step 9 without a cursor? Tab works to move the input reference point but I have not found a way to select the checkbox.

I found it. It is with spacebar.
